this is still set for release for 2010,must admit with it being Tim Burton i am quite looking forward to this,it has some of his regular cast that usually appear in his movies

Johnny Depp-Mad Hatter
Helena Bonham Carter-The Red Queen
Anne Hathaway-The White Queen
Alan Rickman-The Caterpillar
Stephen Fry-The Cheshire Cat
Crispin Glover-The Knave of Hearts
Christopher Lee-The Jabberwok
Timothy Spall-The Bloodhound
Matt Lucas-Tweedledee/Tweedledum
Noah Taylor-The March Hare
Michael Sheen-The White Rabbit
Mia Wasikowska-Alice

hopefully,as it is an actual Live Action production,Tim Burton can add his trademark Goth look...looking forward especially to Johnny Depp,Stephen Fry and Matt Lucas

i have read the books, but like most i still consider the Disney Cartoon to come closest to the zanyness of Lewis Carrolls novel(or at least capturing the spirit)
with it being a cartoon,it helps.Other film productions have left a bad taste(there was one version with Peter Sellers,Roy Kinnear and Dudley Moore in,which wasn't very good)..again like the Disney Cartoon i think this Tim Burton film combines both 'Alice adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the looking glass and what Alice found there'...as Tweedledee and Tweedledum aren't actually in Alice's adventures in Wonderland

anyone else looking forward to this?

Woot!?? I'm sorry, but that has to be the most ridicously overpowered supercastlist I've ever seen in a movie!

Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee? Stephen Fry is pretty damn good as well...

IN day one!

if that incredible cast can live up to the potential of Tim Burton's vision, this could be a really cool film...

Yeah, I can't say that I'm too excited by seeing that picture, though I suppose I shouldn't have epected any different from Tim Burton.

Eurgh...can't remember the last Tim Burton film I actually enjoyed.  That is a great cast though.  This is going on the "maybe" list.

Yeah, that makeup is a little Ziggy Stardust for my tastes, but I'll give Tim the benefit of the doubt.

I want to be interested as I really enjoy Johnny Depp, but I'm starting to feel like Tim Burton keeps making the same movie over and over and over again.  The imagery, costumes, set designs, they all seem to carry over from film to film, and while at first his style was refreshing and new, it's starting to become a bit repetitive.

Tim Burton certainly has talent, but I'd like to see him do a bit more than adapt Edward Scissorhands over and over again.

I'm thinking due to the somewhat iffy quality it might not have been meant for public release so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt too.

still looking forward to Johnny Depp shout 'CHANNNNNGE PLAAACEES'....at any given time

looking at that cast though,it looks like Tim Burton is starting to be come a Travelling Circus, how he has the same people,i am thinking that every Tim Burton film from now on will have Johnny Depp,Helena Bonham carter and Christopher Lee

apparently "the movie is a mixture of live action, animation, and stop motion"

those who dont know who Matt Lucas is,who is playing Tweedledee/Tweedledum,he is part of a BBC comedy called Little Britain..i am not keen on it,but it has a big following over here

I think he's also the baddy on that new "Krod Mandoon" show Comedy Central is running.  The show isn't specatcular, but he's probably the funniest guy on it.

I actually really liked the 1999 TV movie version. It had a great cast.

Robbie Coltrane as Tweedledum
George Wendt as Tweedledee
Whoopie Goldberg as the Cheshire Cat
Ben Kingsley as the Caterpillar.
Miranda Richardson as the Queen of Hearts
Martin Short as the Mad Hatter.
Peter Ustinov as the Walrus
Gene Wilder as Mock Turtle
Christopher Lloyd as the White Knight.

i haven't actually seen that TV version...Miranda Richardson as the Queen of Hearts sounds like must see TV as it is(wonder if she plays it like Queen Elizabeth the First in Blackadder 2) ...quite a nice mixed cast of British and American actors there as well

Still looking forward to the Tim Burton one,the Johnny Depp picture put me off somewhat, but its Johnny Depp,so i am sure it will still be a treat

Ever since I saw Mia Wasikowska in "In Treatment", I've been really anticipating this movie. She was my favorite character in that show (aside from Gabriel Byrne, with whom she had amazing chemistry as a patient).

that looks pretty damn fun..not sure about the weirdness of Tweedledee and dum and the red queen or queen of hearts i get mixed up which one she is ..although she is supposed to be both characters..Queen of Hearts was Alice in Wonderland and The Red Queen was in Through the Looking glass, but most adaptations(including, and prolly the most guilty The Disney Cartoon) have just put both characters into one..the game(American Mcgee's Alice)did the same

there are pictures on IMDB of the weirdness looking of Tweedle Dee and dum and the Queen

it does look like the Mad Hatter is going to be playing a bigger role in this one than I remember from the book.

say, now that they have the costume maybe they can transfer him over for the next batman movie  icon_wink

I actually really liked Burtons Charlie and the Chocolate Factory EXCEPT for Depp.  The original Willy Wonka remains an all time favorite character of mine but the thing in the new movie was a travesty.  I have a bad feeling that the Mad Hatter is going to be a repeat.

with the love of growing up with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory(Gene Wilder),i didn't really give Charlie and the Chocolate Factory a chance, but giving it another chance and watching it again i still think ...why?...Willy Wonker, sure i get that he is a recluse, but its just too creepy, and i have no idea where the whole 'my Father doesn't understand me because he is a Dentist' came from either

and the outcome of Violet Beauregarde(and others),should of been left to the imagination when you hear what has happened to her(needed to be squeezed of juice in the Juicing room)...that goes for the Oompa Loompas,i didnt care for their backstory either

but then again,i suppose that's what remakes are for

i don't suppose we will ever see Charlie and the great glass elevator made into a movie...apparently Roald Dahl hated the Gene Wilder Version, and didn't give them the rights to make a sequel, and Burton/Depp have said they have no plans for a sequel to their version<<<from wiki

let it lay down and die a death?..i think its for the best

i would of liked to see a proper film(s) done of Alice in Wonderland and Alices adventures in Wonderland...Tweedle dee and dum didn't appear in the first book, but saying that though Humpty Dumpty appears in the second book as an egg(when really i think he originated as a cannon)

Re Charlie - very interesting, because I've never seen (or heard about the original), and I LOVED charlie and the choc factory! Absolutely, as did my kids and my GF...

I seriously also think J Depp is one of the most brilliant actors this century, even if you dont like the roles he's cast in. You can always not watch them.

As for Alice, well - it looks bloody brilliant..!

Sure - He's bloody brilliant..one doesnt have to have lived a century to be one of the greatest actors this century ;-)

oh, and thanks for bringing up some non-Tim Burton movies he's been in, people seem to forget that he can do stuff without acting burtonsque :-)

The original Willy Wonka movie came along after my childhood, so I don't have the nostalgia that most of you have. Even though we're Gene Wilder fans, my wife and I agreed that the original movie played like a dumb kids' movie -- it was one of about five movies that we've ever rated only one star on Netflix. I don't mean to piss on anyone's memories, but you ought to remember that you saw the first movie with the eyes of a child and the second with a skeptical adult perspective. Without that bias, the remake was slightly better for being more twisted.

Still looking forward to Alice, though.

I think I did see the original as a kid, but I feel the same way as you. The original has its moments, but Burton's is overall much better IMO.
