Ah, the slippery slope argument.

Again, there are lines that can be drawn and defended.  You just have to be able to show harm.

Then there's the issue of preparing the students for the future.  Most jobs will have much more stringent dress codes than a public school ever would.  While pink hair may survive a job in the fast food industry, good luck getting an office job at most places.

Then again, no public college is going to enforce any sort of dress code.  Head on down to the local quad at lunch hour when school starts.  You'll thank me later.   icon_biggrin

but school does not exist to provide avenues of personal expression.
Nor does it exist to prohibit avenues of personal expression. Man, what the heck happened to you guys to make you so apeshit for rules? Consider:

The Boston Tea Party
Rosa Parks
I regret that I have but one life to give for my country
"Nuts"
1936 Olympics
The Underground Railroad
Being the first country to not bow our flag to the host country's flag at the Olympics

It is resoundingly American to be defiant and rebellious. This girl simply has pink hair. It's not a revolutionary action. It's not going to lead to chaos or anarchy. Dogs and cats aren't suddenly going to get along.

Personally, if this girl were my child, I would be as proud as I could be.

The real problem here, again, is not that she broke the rules, but the fact there is a rule against pink hair at all.  Who gives a fuck?  It's hair.  Get over it.

Never underestimate the petulance of spoiled children and their equally spoiled parents.
I think her dad is a little more spoiled than most.
