Being able to catch references to crappy pop-music would indicate I actually listen to that kind of stuff. I don't, and I take pride in that. In my eyes, recognizing the joke above indicates you have a horrible taste in music or live with someone else who does, and neither is something I'd ever want for myself. Yeah I know, I'm a terrible person.

Seriously.

I don't think I've ever listened to the song all the way through, but it was so ubiquitous, that it permeated a lot of other elements of pop culture.  It was the basis for this sketch on SNL, for example.

Not getting pop culture references doesn't make you a terrible person.  Criticizing people who do, on the other hand...

I don't think it's the "not getting it" so much as the need to publicly proclaim that you don't get it as if you're proud of ignorance.

Since that word has some negative connotations, let's crack the dick'-shun-err-ee, shall we?
Quote from: Ignorance
: the state or fact of being ignorant : lack of knowledge, education, or awareness

"ignorance" is rooted in "ignore". There is nothing wrong with being exposed to, or choosing to, ignore music, correct? I would hate for this "fact" to be begging the question. The simple choice in music may be what this is all about, however all of the parties involved have implied that the music itself is not to their tastes (possibly even being below them or counter to their own beliefs), and so were I to say I enjoyed Beyonce's body of work*, I might be opened to criticism or even ridicule. SCIENCE!

A few facts: Beyonce's music has been used in the past as an anthem for strong, independent women, which isn't considered a bad message. Not acknowledging it, or supporting it, could be a show of chauvinism.
While the song implies there may have been per-marital coitus, the message of the song is that her interest is in a committed, monogamous relationship with a large cash outlay to secure the deal. So by Christian standards, this is status quo and should perhaps be played on Christian rock stations. On the other hand, she's pretty much wearing a one-piece bathing suit and grinding away like a two bit whore. Once again, Christian material. Da Freakin' Pope!

My own take on this is that the picture is funny, and I've never seen the video. Clearly they turned the statue into a third person representing a dance pose. Beyonces music is background music to me. I won't turn it off, but I won't look for it either.

Personally, I'm convinced she might actually be a Ring Wraith. YARRRR!!!

Erm.

I rarely browse on the weekends.

I didn't get it either until the provided link. Not my kind of music but then again I haven't listened to music in years, I don't subscribe to cable/sat TV, and I never have the sound on if my wife isn't watching it for fear I wouldn't be able to hear her yell for help.

I do pride myself on not being saturated by "mainstream society" and thus not knowing that song.

Bah. PM sent to keep this from getting stupid. thumbsup

Bullwinkle, I think Canada has also adopted said "holiday"... my GF and son are hallow-weenies. My house is covered in decorative spiders, ghosts, ghouls and the occasional skeleton.

While my statement (clearly just a joke) doesn't exclude the possibility, you've drawn an incorrect conclusion. I merely indicated that Beyonce was both wearing something similar to a one-piece, and secondly that she was grinding like a two-bit whore. Those two elements are only connected in my example through the main subject. I'd draw a Venn diagram, but I don't think it's worth the effort.

Wow  not only is every number off by one they are all down by one.  The odds of hitting the lotto are insane but the odds of being one number short on every number picked has to be beyond astronomical.

We had a guy here in Texas let the computer pick his numbers for him on two tickets.  Both Quick Picks came out exactly the same.

Oh, and reading other forum traffic talk about number picking strategies just makes my head hurt.
