One thing I wish they had taught me about all the "magic" angles back in HS, I figured out for myself: The angles they always teach are: 0, 30, 45, 60, 90. sin 0° = 0 sin 30° = 0.5 sin 45° = sqrt(2) / 2 sin 60° = sqrt(3) / 2 sin 90° = 1 Now they made us memorize that crap in school, and they all look different enough that it seems like the only way. One day, my love for patterns made me want to all have them look the same, as fractions of x / 2. So once I evaluated it, imagine my surprise when I could represent it as a number series: sin 0° = sqrt( 0) / 2 = 0/2 = 0 sin 30° = sqrt( 1) / 2 = 1/2 = 0.5 sin 45° = sqrt( 2) / 2 sin 60° = sqrt( 3) / 2 sin 90° = sqrt( 4) / 2 = 2/2 = 1 I was so hacked when I realized that there was an easy trick to it that no one ever taught me.

maybe it's your presentation, but that looks MORE confusing not less  It's the presentation. Each one can be represented by the square root of the numbers in series divided by two. b -- # ===== 0 = 0 30 = 1 45 = 2 60 = 3 90 = 4 sin (b) = sqrt(#) / 2

 The "Five Most Dangerous Things I've heard in the Marine Corps"
1. A Private saying, "I learned this in boot camp..." 2. A Sergeant saying, "Trust me, sir..." 3. A Second Lieutenant saying, "Based on my experience..." 4. A Captain saying, "I was just thinking..." 5. A Gunny chuckling, "Watch this shit..."

Though I also much prefer the Hokusai wave, the Japanese art (also a wood block print) in Bullwinkle's post is actually Otani Oniji II by Toshusai Sharaku, and is considered one of the world's great works. His series of portraits of kabuki artists doesn't attempt photo-realism, but intentionally tries to create caricatures that show the actor and character's inner emotions and psychology [citation needed].

Toe, while that's a brilliant painting I think the funny posted by the Moose was emphasizing how European artists were striving for realism in light, color, and proportion while the Japanese focused on comic books.
