Not sure if your WTF is plot specific or just in response to the episode as a whole, but to me that episode last night stunk worse than a pile of corpses.

Spoiler for Hiden:
When Carol gave that nonsensical speech at the beginning, it was clear to me that she wasn't coming back, either through death or banishment, but the way they abruptly got to it was weak.  The two people they found were just random and fairly unbelievable, too.

Tyreese was acting out in non-specific ways "It makes sense to keep moving" "No it doesn't" What?  Why doesn't it?  Just 'cause your sister might be dead, it makes sense to slow down?  Just 'cause you're generally grrr-angry, it's okay to be petulant and hold everyone up?

And what the living hell was the deal with Daryl's snuggle attack thing?  Seriously, with the head up close to the drunk Wire dude, but angry.  What the hell was that??

What the F!?

Referring to Carol? The wrestling guy on Talking Dead summed it up nicely afterwords. Rick lost it long ago, Carol has become the better leader, doing what she needs to do for the best of the community. Rick is too nice, and he has a child he puts before everyone. Carol is free of that baggage. This showed more bad decision making on Rick's part.

Carol will be back.

Boring episode for me. I am not an "action flick" kind of guy, but these long scenes setting up the character and plot for drama later just drag on. I was trying to think of why I don't like it, after all I can watch Mad Men that does the same thing and love it. I think I just don't like the characters. I don't feel attached to any of them or care about them. I want them to win, but in the end they are all just fodder for me. And i am not a fan of zombie stuff in general, why do I watch this show? icon_biggrin

You may want to spoiler that one chunk.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Carol will definitely be back, no question.  There's unfinished business.  If the show starts getting unpredictable with its deaths again, it'll be as a zombie, but that seems unlikely.  I hope it's not with the Gov, but that seems the most logical choice.

Do you not like the show in general or was it last night in particular?  Last night handled everything clunkily, IMO.  Usually the show is better than that.  The first few eps this season have given me renewed hope, but that one just put me off.  I hope it was an anomaly.

They have a writing staff and so more than likely in the course of a season not every show's going to feel like the one one's favorite writer wrote.

Ironically, I love showrunner Scott Gimple's writing (he wrote last year's episode where we finally got to find out what happened to Rick's pal Morgan Jones), and I fear that as show runner he won't be able to write as many as he might as "just a staff writer." Though in theory, he being the overseer of the scripts would bring more consistency.

When...
Spoiler for Hiden:
Carol drove away at the end, I immediately thought, "Hey its' the spin off set up!" icon_smile OK maybe not.

While I understand the idea that situations have forced into hard decisions like they did Rick, I'm not sure I really buy her abrupt turn into cold-blooded "kill sickly people and burn them before they disease us all." Or at least, not sure I like the turn.
I'll say that I liked that the episode got away from the prison. While it's not my favorite, imho it wasn't as bad as the "Let's send Glen into the well for no damn good reason and then everybody pull him out!" episode. icon_razz

What were his options, though, after she confessed? Ignore it/keep quiet, and tacitly condone murder? Put her in prison?  icon_lol Let Tyreese take his revenge?
Spoiler for Hiden:
Exile is an effective alternative in small societies. The more interesting dilemma is what Rick is going to tell the group when he returns without her. Will he be honest about it? Tell the easy lie that she got chomped? Say that she left to pursue other opportunities?

I think she'll be back. She promised the dying guy that she'd take care of his daughters as if they were her own, and Carol is the sort who takes that seriously. She has friends on the inside.

lol I totally agree, Rick is a freaking hypocritical crazy loon pussy.
Spoiler for Hiden:
If I was Carol I would have bitch-slapped him down and fed him to the zombies piece by piece and kept the watch.
I really felt that entire plot "twist" was one of the absolute worst, contrived, inconsistent and flat out annoying things they've written in the entire show.  Probably more just to piss people off and be "controversial" than anything else.

Lots of payoff in tonight's episode from all the setup they've done over the past few weeks. Very satisfying.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I really thought we were going to lose Glen when Maggie forced her way into the sick ward. Looked like they were setting us up for a farewell scene.

I was bored again. The father/son bonding was good, but otherwise the whole outbreak in the prison was just more of the same. Next please. Looking forward to some governor action next week. But the way this show is going the governor may not show up again for a couple more episodes. Less foreshadowing, more plot advancements please.

imho, the episode held my interest, but not much more. Several characters had nothing to do beyond all too brief cameos at the end -- perhaps it was to give some of the cast a rest period?

I agree that the Prison is simply becoming tiresome as a backdrop for the show. Clearly it's falling apart and unsafe, so why the characters would just rot there in what's basically a concrete piece of Swiss cheese, and basically wait to die? I dunno.

I'm still convinced the previous showrunner probably just wanted to get the Hell out of the prison for crying out loud, and probably AMC blanched at that for cost reasons. It's cheaper probably to just rot in the prison and keep having zombie charges in and out of the prison.

The ratings are still out of this world for basic cable, and even good for network TV, so probably they don't much care what I or anyone else here thinks about it.  icon_neutral

Surprised at the tepid response, I actually loved last night's episode.  Yeah it was more of the same in some sense, but I found it riveting, possibly because I really wasn't sure who was going to survive.  I honestly thought one of the core characters
Spoiler for Hiden:
I really thought it was Herschel's time.
might die to deliver a nasty one-two punch with last week.  I also liked that a lot of the "weaker" characters were featured and really stepping up.  I thought even the little girl was gonna get her first kill but oh well.

Then of course there's Carl, as if he wasn't my favorite already.  Can you say Kick Ass?  Loved the father-son sequence.  Personally I think they had to work extra hard to make Rick more likable again after last week, I guess this filled the bill.

Spoiler for Hiden:
And to top it all off, GOVERNATOR'S back, woohoo!!!

I was so bored with the first half of the episode that I started folding laundry while watching it.

Things picked up but I never really felt anyone was in real danger.  I think they need to off a long-time character soon because there's no real tension any more.

I'm with rittchard.  I thought this week's ep was really good.  Very well paced with a lot of action, but still enough time for good character development.  I also had the same worry about which character was going to go.
Spoiler for Hiden:
I really thought we might lose Hershel.  I didn't think we'd lose Glenn.  That went pretty much as I guessed, bringing us to the edge but with a last minute reprieve.

While I can't say I'm excited about the surprise at the end (I hope it gets resolved quickly), I still thought it was a well done reveal.

Overall, this episode was a relief after last week.

I don't know, she has always been a good person. She didn't kill people out of hatred, she was doing it for the good of the group. I guess maybe if she is really angry that she was forced out.

We need a new bad guy though, I would like the see the show go in a new direction.

Looks like the Guv is going to be with us for awhile. I appreciated a little break from the main storyline, boring as it was, but I hope they're not going to drag his arc out for more than another episode.

Yeah, I am still not a fan of the Gov.  Watching him posing his way through the opening moments of the show really built my annoyance.  And then it was mostly boring, as you say.  And I usually love these tightened off-shoot episodes.

I hunkered down to slog through it, and then it's a goddamned two-parter!

Another annoying bit: It's a little late in the series to be bringing in someone who's hip with the modern lingo.  Fistbump Noncop is possibly more annoying than the Gov himself (though that may be because he spent the episode in a stupor).

The show is setting basic cable records week after week (better ratings than many shows on network TV), so it's pretty clear that what anyone thinks here, including me, is maybe a moot point.

I can say this episode was boring or that one seemed pointless or this other one didn't work for me but the masses of the Living Dead have made the show impervious to criticism.

I found the episode entertaining but once again it's asking us to care about these several new characters we know nothing about, and that they'll probably kill off before we ever know anything about. I'd kind of prefer they not essentially waste two episodes that could've been spent developing the "regular" cast.

I was amused at the initial Snake Plissken look. And since Morrisey kind of looks like the guy who played the governor in the TV sitcome Benson, I joked that maybe this is the spinoff pilot for a laugh-track sitcom called The Governor...  icon_lol

Fistbump sister is toast.  She's too much of a cartoon character.  When I saw the twisted ankle scene I thought she wouldn't make it through the episode.  She's like a bad sitcom character.

I liked the break from the regular cast.  I didn't mind the focus on the Gov.  It was interesting to see what happened to him.  I can't tell if he's on a personal redemption journey, or he's just heading further down crazy road.

I'm surprised that they're devoting an entire episode to his story though.

maybe the regulars needed a week off?

it was an ok episode and I liked the tie-in to the Kirkman book "Road to Woodbury".  also odd to see him act out of selfless-ness.  I really think they'll just show him getting attached enough to piss him off when the new people die.
