A little TMI...
So last week about 3am I wake up in pain. At first I thought it was a stomach ache or food poisioning. But it was more in my groin area and on my side. This happened on the weekend, and I wasn't going to go the hospital. I called the advice line and they recommended me to take some ibprofen and use a heat pad. I made an appointment with my dr the next day. By then I had felt much better but still went in to get checked out. Had a urine test done and nothing came up bad. We thought maybe kidney stones but he said I would have been more in pain for a longer period of time. For a day or two after I had the urge to urinate quite often. Annoying more than anything. That went away after drinking more water and stayed away from soda/caffine drinks.
Been fine until tonight. The pain is back and now instead of my side, it's in my back. The urge of urinating is in full force and is keeping me awake. I've had some family issues going on that is stressing me out. That can cause these symptoms, however when it first happened last week, I wasn't stressed.
I'm hoping to try to get some sleep but it's been impossible so far. I'm hoping to get another appointment to see the doc again. I'm hoping he can prescribe something that well remove the feeling of always having to piss even though I don't need to. Is there something I can take OTC?
In terms of OTC remedies, most will wind up suggesting Ibuprofin, but nothing geared specifically toward your ailments. Have you considered seeing a specialist or at least someone more specialized than your primary care physician (assuming that's who you originally visited)? Perhaps a trip to the urologist is in order. Granted, this is all speculation and mere suggestion, but sometimes primary care physicians can diagnose up to a certain point but then a specialist is necessary, especially in cases when symptoms persist without a definitive diagnosis from your physician.
It sounds like the problem is associated with your urinary system, hence the urologist suggestion. Unfortunately you're left waiting to visit your doctor and then may have to wait even longer to see a specialist, but perhaps your doctor could prescribe something more effective for pain mitigation, such as vicodin or something of the like? Granted, it'll make you a bit loopy and impact your ability to work, drive, etc, but odds are the pain and discomfort is doing that already, negating much productivity to begin with.
Ultimately your doctor(s) will have to make the determination as we're just regular folk who occasionally play doctor on the interweb.

Good luck. Kidney stones absolutely terrify me, so here's to hoping it's something far less severe requiring no more than antibiotics and perhaps a few minor painkillers.
