Sounds like some crazy horror story, no? Nope, just an insane stunt on some British TV show (that I think I'd watch if it was over here in the US somehow). Ripped from Dubious Quality:

First, from DQ reader Glen Haag, yet another funny Top Gear video, this one of the absolute destruction of a 1980's Toyota pickup truck. They park it in the sea, run it into walls, and more--and it still runs. And there's even more (it gets progressively wilder and funnier as it goes). Wonderfully entertaining, and here it is:

(edited slightly to 'hide' some of the crazy things they do in an attempt to wreck this amazing piece of machinery)

They do a lot of stuff, but after looking at things closely, they really didn't do all that they could have.  They definitely pulled a few punches, but either way that car did take quite a beating, more than any normal car would.

Putting it on top of that building that was being demolished was genius.

I'm not really surprised, however, since nothing they did was aimed at the engine other than leaving it in the ocean.  Most was really aimed at the body of the truck.

when they had the crane and all it did was knock around the truck a little, I went: They arnt even trying anymore....  Although dropping the caravan on it didnt do nearly the damage I thought it would.

I was watching the blow up the building going: Eh.. it'll survive... lol

And they didnt change one thing.. thats crazy...

I remember a movie from long ago called Castle Keep (a WW2 flick) where they had this Volkswagon they wanted to destroy but it wouldn't die. They finally drove in into the castle moat, but because it was a VW it just floated. So the kept shooting it full of holes.

Yeah, that's funny stuff. Putting it on top of a building that's getting demo'd is a particularly artful bit smile

other than leaving it in the ocean.

Um, isn't this a bad thing? Salt water, any water, in the engine.  Or was it not running so the air intake didn't suck up water?

Either way, half-fake or not - that's why this is my "ride," lol:

Well, not quite - picture more dents, no bug screen, not nearly as shiny and clean... and 1997 - told ya I was poor! Actually, I bought it when I went on disability about 7 years ago... I expect it to last forever. I don't need no stinkin' car payments!

No, it wasn't running when they left it for the tide.

My point was that most of what they did was aimed at the body of the truck.  For example, if they'd run it straight on into the tree the engine most likely would have been damaged.

Still it was pretty cool that the truck lasted as long as it did.

Yeah, that's the amazing part.

My favorite part though was when they'd just gotten to the test track, and the host wondered what they could possibly do to it there. Suddenly, the truck falls from the sky right behind him and he doesn't even flinch. smile

I actually saw that show.  It came on the Science Channel sometime last week.  Pretty amazing stuff.  I doubt mine would stand up to that kind of abuse.  They just don't make them like they used to.

Myto, represent!
