So my current Visa is breaking off it's L.L. Bean rewards program and I'm gonna dump it.

I'm thinking of getting the Sony Visa card (also cause I would win 50k cash by watching Wheel of Fortune!) but I can't figure out how the points system works.  Is it like the Best Buy Rewardzone? You have to have a certain number of points to get discounts on Sony.com?  Like right now they are giving 5k pts on first purchase. But what does that mean?

Wasn't there also a thing where if you sign up for the card you get 100.00 off a purchase?

Huh?

I'm about to take the plunge and use the Sony card for the PS3. From what I read, the $100 comes off your balance, so if you buy the 40GB PS3 at $399, you only pay $299.

I even have it bookmarked:

i did this back when it was 150 off and got a 60gb before they went extinct.  pretty good deal for it considering you can't even find a new unit these days.

i haven't looked at my points, but i don't think it's enough for anything extravagant yet.

they sent me a catalog once with various stuff and their point value.  some of it is very expensive.  i'd list some of it, but i think it's been recycled.

I've had this card for a few years.

I never went in for any of their discounted items through the Sony Store, so I'm not sure how that works.

I usually end up with enough "Sony Points" to get a few Blockbuster gift certificates each year for free.  I use these to buy video games, since the video game selection in the Sony Store is usually pretty poor.

I may have to call them up for the $100 off the PS3.  I've had their card for a few years now so they'd better give me that deal!

Alright. Here's my plan. Get teh Kratos PSP and 3 games for 299+/-. That means I should be able to get the PSP Bundle + 3 games for 200+/-.

That, sir, is a steal. A steal I say!

Is this site legit?  It came from ad on this forum, and I'm hoping to buy a PS3 after christmas (might get one at christmas, that's why I'm waiting)

http://www.sonyrewards.com/en/clubs/sonycard/ps3offer_gbpsc150/

They are offering $150 off when applying for a sony credit card.  I could get a 80GB PS3 for $284, or a 160gb PS3 for $389

Be careful which promo you sign up with, and what the fine print is.  I wound up getting jacked on my $100 off a PS3 because they decided that Best Buy wasn't a select retailer, then they hit me with $40 in late fees because the $100 balance (that they said would come off) didn't.  I seriously regret having gotten that card.

Yes, that's the real site. I got the SOny card when they were offering $100 credit for a PS3 purchase (or anything >$300 I think...) and Wal-Mart was doing the 4100 gift card wityh PS3 purchase. it was a very nice deal.

I don't find the Sony points system to be very advantageous to me so I just use my regular bank credit card with 1% cash back. I know you can do better with some banks, but since I work for this bank I feel like I'm helping the company out. slywink

This is essentially the deal that I did to get my PS3, except it was in conjunction with Amazon. Just read carefully and make sure you mail in everything you need and it should be fine. I don't plan on using the card after I pay it off.

You do take a hit to your credit score though.  I'm not sure how much of a hit, but it's the same as with getting any new credit card.

Some have said that the hit isn't that big, nothing that would really affect someone in already good standing that much, especially if you don't use it.

I had no problems, though they didn't give me my 100.00 for the PS3. They said I was inelligible, but then they gave me a 100.00 credit. So I'm not sure what went on there.

I tried to call up the old link with BB as a authorized reseller but couldn't find it.  I would have had to go to war to get that 100.00 back, but somehow it all worked out.

So Ken-  take a screen grab of that deal to make sure you have it as evidence.

Oh. And I was actually able to combine that with the 100.00 BB gift card (matching that awesome Walmart sale), so I got it all for 199.99 plus tax. Pretty hot!

That was exactly what I was trying to do, except that between the late fees they hit me with (and wouldn't remove) and them not giving me the $100, it wound up costing me close to retail anyway.  I was pretty pissed, and I'm done with that CC company forever.

it took a bit longer for mine because it turned out I already had a credit card with the issuing bank (Chase) and they had to do some special stuff to issue it (decrease the credit limit on my other card).

My credit was on the same bill the PS3 was on. Apparently YMMV.

The way that I did it, I was required to make the purchase on the Sony Card. So it took about a week for the card to come, and then I ordered the console.

Yeah.  It's in small print.  Normally you get on me for not seeing the details biggrin  Thanks for the link though, do you know if gamestop or bestbuy  is considered an authorized PlayStation retailer to purchase a PS3?

I believe so, but why even bother with that?  If you buy from their site, you get the credit immediately and don't have to worry about the rest of the stuff.

But you have to wait for the card in the mail.  If you do it online, you are instantly approved.  I think really it will be right around the same amount of time.

Just got a postcard in the mail for this.  I think it's a sign.  However on the post card they offer the Unchartered: Drakes Fortune 160 gb version.  I'm not sure if I need the extra 80gb, and I'm sure i can find that game used for cheap.

Doubt you need the extra 80GB, and worst case you can just buy a new harddrive and toss it in there.  Stick with the 80GB.

Yeah. I'm actually thinking of dumping the Sony card (no chance I'm gonna win the 50k on wheel of fortune) and going back to LL Bean. I'm planning to redo my wardrobe in spring...

I just did this deal a few days ago.  I've had the Sony card for 2 years now, but all I had to do was apply for the Playstation card, was immediately approved, and the PS3, according to them, should be here in 2-3 weeks.
