I have a bad feeling about this. I believe they shot themselves in the foot. If the plot is the Smurfs coming to NY, then that means that anyone that isn't familiar with them, such as young people who haven't grown up with them won't have any basis about Smurfs and the world around them, and then you have those that grew up with them, and they won't care for the NY plot because they want to see them in Smurfland smurfing Smurfette. This coming to NY plot would be better for a sequel.

*sigh* That's a good example of how NOT to make an adaptation out of a franchise. I hope this bombs vehemently. The scenes we're shown in the trailer are far too reminscent of Alvin & The Chipmunks, which is probably the least of its worries. Also, Gargamel looks creepy, and not in a good way. I just love the way they've randomly inserted "smurfed" into the language, which sounds a lot like someone hasn't grown up with the comics and cartoon.

That looked terrible. It should have included the line, "Brought to you by the creators of Garfield".

OK, I saw this via Amazon, and I have to admit that it wasn't all that bad. it actually felt like it could have been a cartoon set in the 80's. I'd say if you were a fan of the show then it's probably worth a rental.

Just so long as they have a scottish smurf( cuz clearly, smurfs have human multiculturalism even though they have no familiarity, as well as intercontinental travel), it's all plausible, yo. I watched it, and it made me dumber. I love my son, but his choice in movies leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, IWLBSTNBM (I Will Likely Be Seeing The New Buddies Movie).

Agreed. Just saw it today and I didn't think it was half bad. It actually had a lot of redeeming qualities and referenced itself quite a bit. It had quite a bit of respect towards the source material and it was a fun light movie. The trailers actually made it look worse than it was. Perhaps what's most scary though is how I've agreed with CK. They didn't smurf it up.
