DeKnight tweeted that he had a previous commitment in the feature movie world, so he couldn't commit to a 2nd season as showrunner on DD  icon_frown for DD, good for him.

Unfortunately I won't be returning to #Daredevil due to a previous commitment in the feature world.  More to come on that in the future.
*He wrote and directed the DD season finale, maybe that impressed a studio enough to nab him for a feature.  Bring your own!

I suspect to some extent it's a timing thing. Netflix still has four more Marvel series to film and broadcast (including The Defenders team-up) before DD's 2nd season and probably DeKnight couldn't commit to something that far into the future if he has other work lined up. I also don't know what Netflix pays vs. other broadcast networks, could be a factor too.

If Daredevil comes back in 2016 then I think it will air before the other Marvel series finish. The Defenders is scheduled for 2017, but DD getting a second season might put the other series release dates in flux.

Excited DD has gotten a 2nd season order from Netflix  icon_smile

Disappointed that Daredevil's showrunner Steve S. DeKnight won't be returning (he stepped in for Drew Goddard after two episodes), though his successors appear to include at least one fellow Joss Whedon protege at least, and they worked on DD scripts:

DAREDEVIL Renewed for Season 2 with New Showrunners

Quote
In a turn of events that’s both surprising and not entirely unexpected, Netflix has renewed Marvel’s Daredevil for a second season, with the show returning in 2016. When Marvel TV first announced its plans to expand into the world of Netflix, the idea was that four individual shows—Daredevil, A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist—would each air in succession before a team-up Defenders miniseries. With Daredevil now coming back next year, it appears the plan has been altered.

But when Daredevil Season 2 debuts, there’ll be a few changes. Spartacus alum Steven S. DeKnight stepped in to take over the series when creator Drew Goddard left to work on his Sinister Six movie at Sony, but Netflix says DeKnight will not be back as showrunner for the second season. Instead, Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy, Da Vinci’s Demons) will be acting as the new showrunners, with Netflix stressing that the two “worked closely” with DeKnight throughout the first season. Petrie wrote the Season 1 episodes “Stick”, “The Ones We Leave Behind”, and “The Path of Righteousness”, and Ramirez wrote “Rabbit in a Snowstorm” and “Condemned”.
I won't panic about it. Just look through The Walking Dead's rotating set of showrunners to see how common it is for that change to occur.

Just to be clear, the rotating showrunners situation on The Walking Dead is not at all common.  AMC is a bit of a nightmare, apparently.

Losing a showrunner can be a really big deal, as they set the tone, style and pace of a show.  Losing a key one can be disastrous.  Gilmore Girls lost Amy Sherman-Palladino for the last season, and it tanked hard and fast (my wife was just rewatching this on Netflix).  And, of course, Community lost Dan Harmon for the Gas Leak Year, and we know how that went.

It's early enough for DD that losing DeKnight may not be a problem. And at least this was amicable.  That's actually huge, as Producers won't necessarily be trying to get their own way.

Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple/Night Nurse) re-signed for Season 2, also available for the other Netflix/Marvel shows:

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple in the second season of  the Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s Daredevil,” coming in 2016, as part of a larger exclusive TV deal that will also allow her to appear in any of Marvel’s other Netflix original series.

If you've watched the whole DD Season 1, you know...
Spoiler for Hiden:
Dawson's character essentially disappears after seeming to have a fairly major role the first few episodes. I assumed maybe she had some other work lined up, but I guess maybe the storyline just didn't call for her character much after the first few. Sounds like they have bigger plans for her.  icon_smile

DAREDEVIL Season 2: Jon Bernthal Set as The Punisher

*By the way, Transformers and "writers room" is an oxymoron -- they can make $1B on every horrific sequel because international audiences devour everything CGI, no writing is necessary -- and I'm utterly mortified/mystified Daredevil losts its showrunner to such a Thing.  Roll Eyes

I liked this a ton more than the teasers they've been putting out.  It looks like I hoped it would.

Also, I love the comic-style image before loading.

That looked a lot like Daredevil, which I guess is OK.

I'm not familiar with the character from comics, and I personally don't really like Kristin Ritter, so I doubt it's going to blow me away.
