Stupid injury.

Apparently I'm old now. I snapped the tendon on my right arm, disconnecting my right bicep from the anchor point on my forearm.

I've had the surgery (three days after, at zero cost thanks to Canada's medicare system) with a surgeon who handles the Winnipeg Jets.

Long story short : my gym workouts are totally compromised (for 6+ months) and gaming is currently in 15 minute spurts.

Ugh.

Yikes!  Snapping a major tendon does NOT sound like fun at all.   icon_eek

Thankfully, as you say, the cost of that sort of surgery is covered by Canada's medical system and you're not looking at thousands and thousands of dollars in debt and unable to work properly on top of it.  Not being able to game for much at a time does seem to make recovery more boring than usual, though.

Oddly enough, just yesterday I saw this picture of a guy who tore his pectoral muscle after going for the world's bench press world record.

I think he would agree that you should never give more than 100%.   icon_wink

I never really got good ones that show the damage. I could show the result AFTER corrective surgery. I'm at 95% capacity now (max spider/scots curls was in a drop set of 4x145lbs, 6x95lbs, 8x75lbs).

It's good to be back to pushing heavier. Now I just gotta grind away at getting my bench back to where I was.

Geez man, that sucks. But at least you got treated by a good doctor. What were you doing when it happened? Weightlifting?

I was walking up to a chinup bar, leapt up and one hand missed. Thought to myself "Justin, you're strong enough to recover..."

Tried to grab on the left side again but due to the momentum from walking forward, I started backswinging and missed on the left again. My right arm then took my entire body pulling it on one side, tearing out my bicep from my forearm.

TL;DR? Accidental cross-fit.

This moment also destroyed for me the standard cinematic trope of catching yourself with one arm while falling any significant distance. Nevermind joint dislocation - your tendons can snap too.

Here's a pic. You can notice in the inside bend of my right elbow (this is not a mirrored shot, so my right, your left) that my bicep is seated a half-inch higher than the left.

Damn, and I thought I was in shape

Looking good, but sucks about your bicep though.

It's back to form - I can manage 4 slow reps of 145lbs (drop sets)  on scots curls (aka spider curls, aka the north face of the preacher bench).

Much respect to you, Purge. I know the feeling. I've been going to the gym as well. At first, I didn't think it'd be a thing I'd want to do, but doing it has given me a different mindset and makes me feel better about myself. Over the years, I've gained a lot of confidence due to it. My transformation hasn't probably been quite as dramatic as yours, but I always get compliments that I look better than I ever did.

A buddy offered to take a pic of me curling. This is from my second arm day of last week (wed, then this is fri). Problem was that I had also fasted for 90hrs at this point (taking in less than 400KCal a day through butter and MCT oil in my coffee), and this was half-way through a drop set (so the bar + weight is 125lbs, and the set was pretty dirty - my shoulders should be more forward).

It is probably the best pic of the damage in a side-by-side.

Almost makes me want to go through surgery again to fix it. Almost.
