I'm totally there!  This movie looks pretty fantastic IMHO.  Everyone in my house is excited to go see it.

yeah, that's the departed (looks good too), but The Prestige man....My girl scarlett, michael caine, hugh jackman, christian bale and the dude who made Batman Begins -- it's like an all-star lineup. Gonna be so good.

We liked it a lot. Nolan is one of my favorite directors and Bale one of my favorite actors.

It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it was very well done. David Bowie was great as Tesla.

Hmm, not exactly a glowing review.  I'm a fan of Chris Nolan, but he also directed Insomnia which wasn't so great.  Maybe I'll just wait for DVD.

I'd give it 3 1/2 stars out of 4. And with repeated viewings I think it will probably go to 4.

It's just not your standard Hollywood fare so if you don't like the off-beat, you might not like it.

It's incredibly well acted, it's beautiful, it's convoluted (there are about 3 different time lines going on at once), it's a bit tedious and ponderous at times, but the payoff off the final 1/3 (the Prestige, if you will) makes it all worth while.

Good, good, goooood movie. Had the group of us talking/debating/deducing/understanding some of the movie's finer parts right afterwards. I think what I find most, well shit, beautiful about the movie's twist/reveal is how it further showcases the characters. It's so bizarre, but it offers greater depth into the characters, alongside the plot. Pretty cool. Go watch the movie.

I think I'm going to drudge up a few spoiler filled reviews on the net.

I want this movie on DVD right now. I want to watch it over and over again. I want to hear the commentaries. Most of all, I want to know the different interpretations of the movie.

Definitely worth the bump if it means more people see the flick.

i feel like there was a bunch of stuff i missed the first time around (im going back to the theater for sure, I really cant get enough Nolan) and I know from just seeing the stills that the movie was stuff with nuanced details (did u see the screenshot that had "two hughs" in it?)

Unfortunately I did figure out the twists of the movie quite a bit before they revealed them.

But still enjoyed it very much, and would recommend it to others.

So I finally got around to seeing this one last night and while I did really enjoy it, I couldn't believe the major deviations from the book.  It was like they took five main ideas from the book and then rewrote everything around them.  I liked how the movie played out and I think the dramatic tension and payoff was perfect for a movie, but they stripped out and/or changed so much that it was hard to discuss it with my friend who hasn't read the book yet.

He thinks Batman had a twin the entire time.  But I was telling him that Batman acquired his 'twin' when he visitted Tesla.

Either way, it's pretty damn creepy that Wolverine was essentially comitting suicide every night just so he could get revenge.

That was the one issue that all of us who watched the movie couldn't fully make up our minds about. There was reason to go with either notion. And both possibilities had thematic elements and plot points that suppoerted each one.

And part of me is very, very pleased that it isn't explicit.

According to the book

Spoiler for Hiden:

he had the twin the whole time.  The name Alfred Borden was actually a concatenation of the two brothers' names, Albert and Frederick if I remember correctly (lent the book to my friend).  They/he had even gone so far as to change birth records and it takes nearly the whole book before it is found out by Angier.  The whole point is that they/he has been willing to basically sacrifice half of his life for the sake of his magic.  In fact, in the book the brother who is not currently being Alfred basically hides out and does not dress up as the engineer/helper...just one of the many, many differences between the book and the movie. 

Also, Tesla never built a machine like that for Borden, that name was given as a way to sidetrack and trick Angier (although it was given in a different manner, again a difference between the book and movie).  Also, in the book the "prestige" result of Tesla's machine is already dead, so Angier is not exactly commiting murder each night.  I could go on and on about the ways the movie differed from the book...
