I checked the mail a little bit ago and found a letter from the USPS CISC (Criminal Investigations Service Center). They've sent a letter to Rick asking that he contact me and make good on his end of the deal. I've been given a form to fill out and send back after 45 days, to let them know if the issue has been resolved.

To be honest, I had given up on ever getting anything resolved with this. It's good to see that the complaints are actually read and not thrown off to the side.  He may read the letter, and toss it into the garbage, he is probably that type of person. It's nice to know that he will be getting several of these types of messages in his mailbox, hopefully all on the same day.

Hmmm...I wonder if TSS knows about this site and if he'll post in here?  smile

For those CG'ers unaware, TSS was a person who posted regularly on GG at one point. He was infamous for posting multi-1000 word essays in nearly every post he made, and supposedly ran some sort of online software store, primarily on Ebay.

Earlier this year he became even more infamous when he took money and games from a bunch of GG'ers in the GG trading forum, then basically just made off with the loot.

Some, including Szgany here, filed grievances against TSS with the US Postal Inspector for mail fraud.

Thanks for the update Szgany, I was wondering if anyone ever heard anything else on the matter.

Szgany,

Keep us posted.  I'm sure a lot of us here would like to find out what eventually comes out of this.

Wow, I'd never heard about this. TSS sure didn't seem the type to do something like that. Write long long diatribes that were hard to read yes, steal no.  frown

Wow that sucks, what an ass.  I never heard about that.

Did he ever surface after screwing people over?  Has anyone heard anything from the guy?

AFAIK, no, no one ever heard from him again. At one point, his website had his home address & phone, but I think the site is long gone, and his ebay account was killed too (by ebay). IIRC, he took a bunch of ebayers at the same time.

I think he actually had two accounts. One that got cancelled after ebay found out about him and then another having signed back up, only to be cancelled again.

Actually, the asshole's website is still around...
At the bottom of the following page

http://www.rochnet.net/cat/help.html

there is a phone number to contact The Software Society.  Since the bargains on the website are known as "Rick's Picks", it seems the dirtbag is still ripping people off personally.

Around the same time all this shit was going down, TSS and I made a trade that seriously didn't have a single kink.  It was a pretty big trade too, with ~$70 worth of stuff being exchanged on each end.  And, well, it went fine.

I don't know if he meant to screw people over or if something else happened.  During the trade, TSS and I discussed his business and a little of his personal life, and it seemed as though something was up between him and his wife, though I might have been reading too far into it.

I don't meant to defend him... he obviously ripped some people off... just, I don't know how malicious he was.  I think he was forgetful, a poor businessman, and around all the ripoffs occured, might have had some personal troubles... but I'm not sure he woke up one morning and said "time to rip off everyone."

Of course, I'm just guessing, here.

My life experiences say to me that one also doesn't wake up one day and "forget" scads of trades and sells. This was a sudden thing, and happened to numerous people, and he got tons of negative feedbacks and fraud complaints over on ebay at the same time. I find it hard to attribute that to spouse troubles, having a bad day, or "ooops, I just forgot".

Why is he still in business?

Why did he never return to apologize?

Why did he make ZERO effort to right the wrongs?

It just looks like simple thievery to me.

If he took a bunch of Ebayers at the same time I'm wondering if he just went rogue or if he died? If the bills were paid on his site it would keep on running and glancing at it I couldn't tell if it had been updated recently, all the titles are older so it's hard to say.

It's probably unlikey and he's just a thief. The idea just popped in my head after reading an article a week or two ago about a guy who died and no one noticed for 2 years because he had all his bills set up with automatic payment.....

That site of his is ... bizarre, to say the least. It looks like a bunch of mid-90's software. My guess is he bought old stuff on ebay, garage sales, or whereever, then resold it at a markup.

I was able to process an order, and it was going to let me check out, so apparently he's still doing this.  Dunno. And why is "The Software Society's" website listed as rochnet.net? also bizarre.

Funny, when I chose pay by mail order, I got a message saying that "someone would contact me within 48 hours on how to pay by mail order"

wtf? you can't just list how to pay right on the site?

I'm not sure this guy is/was altogether there.

Oh, I'm not naive enough to think he 'forgot' about all his deals, just, I think he might have been under a ton of stress (wife problem?) and said "fuck 'em," then felt bad about it later but didn't know how what to do, so he did nothing (bad buisnessman).

I mention "forgetful" only because I remember hearing how long it'd take him to complete trades.  Now, don't get me wrong, I've done my share of slow trades too, but it was business as usual for TSS...

He didn't just die...he was in email dialog for weeks after the last trade happened.  The excuses never stopped...he was leaving the company, traveling all over the country and overseas looking for a job, etc, etc, etc.  He is nothing more than a common thief who ripped off at least 10 people on this board, more through the TSS site and many many more through ebay.  I don't want my 10 games back...I want 10 minutes in private to beat the hell out of him for being an base lying cowardly ass and betraying everything gonegold stood for.  BTW, the site is still up but nothing has been updated since early this year and no emails/phone numbers are answered.  Damn I hope he's in jail right now...that's about the only excuse I would accept.

Yeah, I remember all that now. I also remember him blaming it on Media Mail, and something about how postal inspectors opened all his outbound packages and returned them as being unfit for that type of mail, or some kind of bullshit along those lines.

It was all the lies and excuses after the fact that really incriminated him. It showed that he knew what he was doing, and doing it willingly and with malice.
