This is pretty awesome. It also hit the front page of Slashdot, so hopefully that helps out with the fundraising.

If you view the comic on the funnyjunk site, you can see that funnyjunk members are deleting their accounts in droves over this.

Just to clarify though, The Oatmeal is not getting sued and wont ever get sued for this particular issue. An asshat decided to try legal extortion through an attorney. It happens all the time. Awesome though that this is going to generate a ton of money for two very good charities. Fantastic response to this by The Oatmeal and if karma comes into play, FunnyJunk will lose the vast majority of their internet traffic (and thus their income ) over this.

I love the Oatmeal for this. Of course it does generate publicity for Funnyjunk considering I never heard of them before, but at least it's not positive publicity!

It's just a shame that not more folks are linking/name-and-shaming the attorney who sent it, not just FunnyJunk. They're both culpable.

When doing a news trawl, I saw that the news item had been covered by at least two German sources as well.

Are you maybe thinking of TheMeal? By the way, it seems the asshat lawyer is trying to get the charity drive shut down now.

Someone should submit that stuff to the NBC Brian Williams news guy. Make sure it's an emphasis on the guy trying to get the charity support shutdown. I bet he would back off quick with that much bad press.

The Oatmeal has a ridiculous number of readers.
I mean, we got linked on the lawsuit story by Gawker, BoingBoing, Slashdot, multiple Reddit threads, Memeorandum, Ars Technica, TechCrunch, MSNBC, Forbes, Wil Wheaton, and others -- and then The Oatmeal linked us and traffic MORE THAN DOUBLED.
