is already in the works.  I don't know, the concept sounds cool.  it's in the very last paragraph, so I'll just quote it:

Quote
As he puts the finishing touches on Terminator Salvation, McG is already looking ahead to the next chapter in what the studio hopes will be another trilogy. "I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

definitely out there yet cool sounding at the same time.

No. No it won't. At. All.

If the robots can send all that back, why not just send it all back to kill sarah conor. No way Reese fights that off.

Better yet, just send it all back to the 1600s and sink the Mayflower.  Then send em back to 1492 and sink columbus just to be sure.

This is just SO stupid. Anything after T2 should be erased.

perhaps they have diminishing returns on power to send stuff back in time.  for example, they send the first Terminator back to kill Sarah Connor, but after that they don't have the energy to send someone back further and are only able to send something back to the 90's.  of course if they sent someone back to do more it could have unpredictable effects-  sink the Mayflower and SkyNET may never get created to send something back to sink the Mayflower slywink

Only thing I can think is maybe he's a terminator that was sent back 50 years too far back and has just been chilling (and aging!) as he awaited orders from SKynet.

If they start sending more people back in time, the time paradoxes will just get further out of hand. They need to just stop.

I think a final movie with no time travel and the end of Skynet is the way the they should go. Otherwise, I think a reboot is all Terminator is good for at this point, and I don't even think I want that.

You don't. You want them to erase the dribble done since T2, have a proper 3rd movie that shows the last few days leading up to judgment day and the first years of the war culminating with Skynet sending the original Terminator through time and the final scene being the original beginning of Terminator 1.  That's what we all want.

I thought T3 was ok, not horrible but not great.  I actually thought Salvation was pretty good.  They're both still far below Terminator 2, though, which is one of the best movies of all time.

While I found T3 reasonably entertaining, Jonathan Mostow (who did the fine thriller Breakdown and the decently entertaining if history-mocking U-571 submarine actioner) is no James Cameron, even if he's reasonably adept at staging action set pieces.

The sad thing is, I actually found the very end sort of spine-tingling. "Who's in charge?" "I am." A movie starting from that point (broken hearted young John Connor forming and leading the resistance, from virtual scratch, from a US bomb shelter/command center) might've been intriguing. Or at least different. And not just sort of a remake of the 1984 original, just with Arnie as a good guy again.

I've seen Salvation on TV and just don't find it very memorable. I didn't find McG any better fit for the franchise than Mostow.

One of these young buck directors that have been drafted for comic book stuff or the guy who wrote Looper might be better able to script as well as direct a Terminator film, and maybe introduce a fresh angle.

As for names for the next film, I suggest:
Terminator: Termination
Terminator: Abomination
Terminator: Treadmill
Terminator: More of the Same  icon_razz

Paramount picks up the rights to T5

Quote
The long-planned Terminator 5, with Arnold Schwarzenegger, may finally be going before the cameras next year...

Quote
now it seems that the wheels of Terminator 5 are set to turn again. Paramount Pictures, reports The Wrap, is negotiating fo the distribution rights to the new movie, which will continue to be produced by David Ellison's Skydance Productions and Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures.

The plan, it seems, is to move into production at some point next year (suggesting a possible 2015 release date), although Terminator 5 still needs a director. Justin Lin, of Fast & Furious fame, was attached once upon a time, and he's become available again since. Whether he takes the gig remains to be seen.

Having Arnold in the next movie would make no sense.  Would the machines make a new line of robots that happen to look like their old line, but thirty years older?  Sometimes it's best to just move on, especially when you haven't been able to put out a decent product in several decades.

At the rate Jimmy makes films these days (he'll be 65 in 2019), he'd probably do a 4-D Terminator when he's about 77 years old (not that there's anything wrong with that - Clint Eastwood's directing in his 80s), and tickets will cost $49.99. Because if you charged people $50 for a movie ticket, they'd riot.  icon_razz

Not to sound cynical, I would just love to see the studios try to chase fresh ideas now and then. Give us more District 9, and less Terminator 7 reboot 4.  disgust

A source close to the project says one idea being considered for the film could throw fans of the Terminator franchise for a loop. According to the scenario outlined, T5 may be a prequel set in the days of Sarah Connor's parents, marking the first time terminators have been sent back in time to kill a character that existed before both John and Sarah Connor.

Incredibly, Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger's remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today's standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

Good lord, that sounds like an awful movie. What's next for Arnie? A sequel to 'Commando'? Maybe another 'Kindergarden Cop'? I really wish they would divorce 'The Terminator' franchise from Arnie the same way 'Prometheus' did from Sigourney Weaver. The war against the machines needs to move on without Arnie.

christ, 2015 is going to be a busy movie year:  T5 6-26-15.

it's the first part of a planned trilogy, kinda like Salvation was the first part of a trilogy (which they only have until 2019 to complete).

Why don't they just reboot it at this point? The original film's 29 years old and was filmed on, well, a newspaper reporter's budget.  icon_razz

Just re-do the film. You can make everything different. You can have the terminator come back, impregnant Sarah Connor, who gives birth to Arnuhld quintuplets that all have a different personality. Then they grow up and send a John Connor robot back to kill the Arnhuld quintuplets.

Meanwhile Sarah Connor becomes president and starts an arm's face that devastates Earth.

But on the moon, John Conor Robot's Arnhuld love child plans the terraforming of the devasted Earth.

Yeah it's stupid but no more stupid than most of the screenplays that got made into $150M+ budget movies this summer. Someone give me my advance!!!  retard

Never thought I'd say it, but rebooting is probably the best idea.

They can then bastardize and ruin the universe as much as they want and not have it be associated with the first two movies.

Ooh, and the reboot would definitely have to go for an expanded demographic.  Forget using dogs to spot infiltrator units; did you know that Terminators sparkle in the sunlight?  Here's the tricky part, though.  Was the latest Terminator programmed to kill... or to love?
