is already in the works. I don't know, the concept sounds cool. it's in the very last paragraph, so I'll just quote it: As he puts the finishing touches on Terminator Salvation, McG is already looking ahead to the next chapter in what the studio hopes will be another trilogy. "I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."
definitely out there yet cool sounding at the same time.

<GROAN!> So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be awesome. No. No it won't. At. All. If the robots can send all that back, why not just send it all back to kill sarah conor. No way Reese fights that off. Better yet, just send it all back to the 1600s and sink the Mayflower. Then send em back to 1492 and sink columbus just to be sure. This is just SO stupid. Anything after T2 should be erased.

Anything after T2 should be erased. perhaps they have diminishing returns on power to send stuff back in time. for example, they send the first Terminator back to kill Sarah Connor, but after that they don't have the energy to send someone back further and are only able to send something back to the 90's. of course if they sent someone back to do more it could have unpredictable effects- sink the Mayflower and SkyNET may never get created to send something back to sink the Mayflower

Only thing I can think is maybe he's a terminator that was sent back 50 years too far back and has just been chilling (and aging!) as he awaited orders from SKynet.

If they start sending more people back in time, the time paradoxes will just get further out of hand. They need to just stop.
I think a final movie with no time travel and the end of Skynet is the way the they should go. Otherwise, I think a reboot is all Terminator is good for at this point, and I don't even think I want that.

You don't. You want them to erase the dribble done since T2, have a proper 3rd movie that shows the last few days leading up to judgment day and the first years of the war culminating with Skynet sending the original Terminator through time and the final scene being the original beginning of Terminator 1. That's what we all want.

I thought T3 was ok, not horrible but not great. I actually thought Salvation was pretty good. They're both still far below Terminator 2, though, which is one of the best movies of all time.

While I found T3 reasonably entertaining, Jonathan Mostow (who did the fine thriller Breakdown and the decently entertaining if history-mocking U-571 submarine actioner) is no James Cameron, even if he's reasonably adept at staging action set pieces. The sad thing is, I actually found the very end sort of spine-tingling. "Who's in charge?" "I am." A movie starting from that point (broken hearted young John Connor forming and leading the resistance, from virtual scratch, from a US bomb shelter/command center) might've been intriguing. Or at least different. And not just sort of a remake of the 1984 original, just with Arnie as a good guy again. I've seen Salvation on TV and just don't find it very memorable. I didn't find McG any better fit for the franchise than Mostow. One of these young buck directors that have been drafted for comic book stuff or the guy who wrote Looper might be better able to script as well as direct a Terminator film, and maybe introduce a fresh angle. As for names for the next film, I suggest: Terminator: Termination Terminator: Abomination Terminator: Treadmill Terminator: More of the Same
