Just watched The Man from Nowhere, another great movie. Thank you for the great suggestions.
I also saw that Ip Man 2 is now available, if you haven't seen them I highly recommend both Ip Man and Ip Man 2.

I also saw that Ip Man 2 is now available, if you haven't seen them I highly recommend both Ip Man and Ip Man 2. I watched 1 and enjoyed it very much - easy since I'm a big Donnie Yen fan. We don't have 2 in Canuckistan yet, but since its now state-side I'm hopeful it'll be available here soon. I streamed a movie this weekend that shouldn't be missed by any war film fan. It's the French film L' Ennemi Intimee; Intimate Enemies. It's set in Algeria during the war of independence of the late 50's. I've done a considerable amount of reading of that era and campaign and this film is close to fact. Not a film to watch with kids, GF or Wife as it doesn't pull any punches in depicting the real brutality and torture of a war of insurrection. It's the 1st film I've seen where they accurately depict the horror of a napalm strike - I was impressed with We Were Soldier before, not so much now. This was Frances' 2nd dirty war that started just 6 months after their debacle in Viet Nam, and this film will have you shaking your head how they ended up in such a mess yet again. It's not all blood 'n' guts though, as it was filmed in the Atlus mountains of North Africa and there's some slower moment filled with breath taking scenery. It's subtitled, so you'll need to not be comfortable with that to enjoy it.

This sounds great but I can't seem to find it on Netflix. Can you post a link? My wife and I watched Man from Nowhere last night and it was outstanding! It made me want to watch Oldboy again, for the 5th or 6th time.

This sounds great but I can't seem to find it on Netflix. Can you post a link? This is the link that starts it playing for me. No sooner had I made my earlier post though, that I realized its possible it isn't available for US Netflix subscribers. I always assume that because the service is older and has a much larger user base in the US, that it will automatically have everthing the Canadian service does. However, this is a French language film and Canada is of course officially biliningual - English and French. So I guess its possible it isn't availalbe in the US yet or some other countries. My apologies if that proves to be the case.

For those who loved Let the Right One In (and if you haven't seen that vampire gem, do so immediately), the American remake Let Me In will be available to stream on 7/1. I watched it a while ago and it was actually not too bad. Other than some annoying CGI that they shoehorned in an obvious attempt to draw in the kiddie crowd, it was a decent remake that captured quite a bit of the subtle undertones of the original.

I saw it (as well as the original) and thought it was pretty weak in comparison (on every level). I would only recommend it to folks that can't stand to read subtitles. So if you loved the original, I recommend watching it again over the english remake.

How so? They kept almost all the original plot points, did not advance the ages of the characters to a point that would place a new meaning on their relationship, did not shy away from showing the violence that she was capable of, included the same details about her "companion", and ended the movie on almost the same note.
Is it as good as the original? No, and I stated as much. However, it wasn't the disaster I was afraid it would be.

I expected the same. A disaster. I would say Let The Right One In is my favorite vampire movie and one of my all time favorite horror movies. The remake had everything that the original had but there was something missing. The actors were great but it just didn't have ... I don't know, the bleakness and at the same time the heart of the original. Still, it's worth a watch but see the Swedish version first.

instantwatcher.com is a good site to get info on streaming titles for Netflix like how much longer it is available. Good if your in the middle of going through a TV series.

Two quick questions:
1. Is it common for Netflix to eventually get additional seasons of shows? I've watched Archer and The League recently (loved both), and am just curious if the more recent stuff eventually comes available. Or is Netflix there to wet your whistle so you go buy the DVD's?
2. Any Instant Watch anime recommendations? I'm totally out of the loop when it comes to newer anime, but have been in the mood recently to check something out.

I just noticed they've added a bunch of classic 90's Marvel cartoons, like X-Men and Spider-man. They also have X-Men Evolution, so if you want to see real X-Men and not that first class shit here's your chance.

Yeah, they are frequently adding new seasons/episodes for shows that are on Instant Watch. In fact, when they do that you now get the "New Episode" sign on that show in your queue (at least if you're looking from a 360/PS3).

I checked out the first episode of both Trigun and Corpse Princess last night (since they roll off the service at the end of the month) but they seemed a little... goofy. May go back and give them another shot. In the meantime, liking both Tokko and Claymore. For something not on Netflix, I managed to snag a copy of The Last Exile three years ago and highly recommend that as well if you can find it for a decent price. I've heard something about a sequel coming as well.

I checked out the first episode of both Trigun and Corpse Princess last night (since they roll off the service at the end of the month) guess I'll be watching the rest of Trigun finally. of course they don't always remove stuff when they say they are- I ended up trying to do a crazy marathon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because I thought I was running out of time, but sure enough it was still up after it's expiration date and I was able to finish the series. BTW, the girlfriend wants me to sit down with her and watch Grave of the Fireflies. I looked it up and it sounds very depressing- anyone else see it?

Same here. A friend strongly recommended it, and one evening over the Christmas holiday he popped it in and was adamant we watch it. While the animation and storytelling was stellar, the story itself was terribly depressing, especially for an animated feature, and at the end I too felt like I was in a solemn stupor. A great film I don't think I'll ever watch again.
