Police Squad is returning!  it sounds like it will be direct to DVD, but still I'd love to see Leslie Nielsen reprise Frank Drebin.

I wonder if they'll re-cast Nordberg.

They've done it before; can't see why they wouldn't do it again now (see the TV-show, where Nordberg was played by some other guy).

I think the first Naked Gun movie is among the best of comedy available on film (IMO), so I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Actually, OJ was the recast Nordberg.  The TV show predated the films.

Quote from: Wikipedia
The Naked Gun is a series of three comedy films from 1988 to 1994, written and produced by the comedy filmmaking trio Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was based on their short-lived 1982 ABC television series Police Squad!, which was cancelled after six episodes.

This sounds interesting but if its straight to DVD it will be forgotten quickly, even if it is good.

Edit: A funny note about the TV show is that each episode started off with a "special guest star" being killed in the opening scene.  John Belushi filmed a segment but died before the episode aired, leading to a decision to not use his sequence, which has since been lost.

Yes, I know that. I was just saying they used a different actor in the TV show. Didn't say they recast the role for the show.

Sounds like they just wrote him out:

Everyone wonders how you can make a “Naked Gun” movie without mentioning O.J. and the screenplay addresses this head on and rather brilliantly within the first three pages.

Leslie Neilsen is getting old. It would be better seeing him as Chief and having new people run missions.

Hmm, well, I guess I should have read the article first. Looks good. I would hope that Paramount would change their mind about it being a DVD release. I think Get Smart showed that people were still hungry for that type of humour, and if successful, would encourage the genre to come back.

That's not a bad idea, but who? Steve Carell?

Well, and I'm upset that the legacy of the Naked Gun movies and the ZAZ comedy team is the series of "____ Movie" movies.  It'll be nice to see Naked Gun (hopefully) reclaim its throne.  The only thing they have to remember is to play it perfectly straight.  That was always the best part of those movies.
