Yuck.
I never will forget being home sick with pink eye in middle school, and my mother bringing me one of these for lunch.
I maybe ate half of it, then threw it away. Only time I've tried one and after the last post have no plans on trying another.
I'd love to see a similar analysis done on Krystal Burgers (similar to White Castle for those of you not in the south).

I can't explain it, no I cannot. But oh how I love the gooey-goodness McRibs provide of restructured meat product shaped like riblets. Mmm, plastinated meat product.

You can explain it, they're good. They have really strong flavor, fatty, salty, and with the starchy bun, and the onion and pickles add random bursts of other flavor. Combined with more starch and salt from the fries, to offset the strength of the BBQ flavor, it's great.
It's a very good product, but not that great food overall.

I never will forget being home sick with pink eye in middle school, and my mother bringing me one of these for lunch. If you had eaten the entire sandwich, it would've cured your pink eye. Don't say that's not true. You'll never know!

The first time I tried the McRib in its original incarnation in the 80s, I bit into a processed bone fragment that completely grossed me out. Even though the taste was ok, the reality that I was eating processed meat and bones ruined the freakish sandwich for me for all time. Today the concept of processed meat (with whatever else is processed with it) shaped to look like ribs makes me quesy.

This vile-sounding food product must taste really good to be as popular as it is, or maybe keeping it scarce is just really brilliant marketing. I've never had one, and I probably never will now that McD's seems to be completely off my list. I used to get their hamburgers a few times a year, but the restaurant nearest to me is incapable of assembling sandwiches correctly and serving them hot.

Until recently, I owned some McDs stock, so I was reading anything and everything about the company. IIRC, the McRib doesn't sell that great, but its a good PR piece that gets people talking about the restaurant. There is a cult following for the sandwich, but not a big enough one to make it a huge seller, they get more people who want to try it because they heard about it, or for nostalgic reasons.
McD's hasn't been doing so hot this year, so they were desperate to drum up business, hence the BCO burger (which did well is the rumor) and now the McRib. Reading this thread it sounds like the McRib always comes out this time of year though.

A competitor???? Burger King's answer to the McRibhttp://money.cnn.com/2013/05/15/news/companies/burger-king-rib-sandwich/index.html?source=cnn_binBurger King (BKW) is about to offer up some competition. The fire-grilled burger-maker unveiled its summer BBQ menu on Wednesday, which includes the Rib Sandwich along with 12 other items.
The menu, also featuring a Memphis BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich and a Carolina BBQ Tendercrisp Sandiwch, will debut on May 21.
While a Burger King publicist wouldn't confirm if this menu is intended to lure customers away from the McDonald's McRib, the Burger King rib sandwich does bare a BBQ-themed resemblance.
Burger King described the Rib Sandwich as a "juicy boneless rib patty with a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce" that is "topped with crispy bread and butter pickles" served on a "warm toasted artisan style bun."

We expect a full report with photographs, videos, a 3-D animation (maybe X-Ray video of the sandwich going down your esophagus), and a Powerpoint presentation. Actually, if the Memphis pulled pork bbq is any good, I need to try that.

As promised I have had the Burger King rib sandwich. I have yet to have their pulled pork sandwich, which to be honest I am more interested in.
The rib sandwich was pretty meh - the pork "slice" was pretty thin and was mostly overpowered by pickles and barbeque sauce. You can probably take a pass. It is also much smaller than a McRib, served on a round bun.
I will say that Burger King shakes are damn good now - very thick and creamy.
