Why? You don't have to watch it in 3D if you don't want to, and I wouldn't expect Peter Jackson to throw things at the screen to show off. It most likely won't affect you at all.

Benedict Cumberbatch talks about Smaug

http://collider.com/benedict-cumberbatch-the-hobbit-interview/127609/

this is from late November, video interview where he states that he is not just providing the voice for Smaug, but also doing some motion capture for him as well, not sure how that will work, but you gotta trust all involved,he starts his Hobbit filming this month(he is in the second film)

also,no word if he is still doing the voice for The Necromancer of Dol Guldur
Spoiler for Hiden:
who is Suaron
as was rumoured when his Smaug role was announced,he is still listed for both on IMDb

Apparently the Hobbit is using a new 48 fps tech like motionplus and it looks like a soap opera dammit.

I'm not overly worried.  Some said Avatar's 3D wouldn't be impressive either.

That's something completely different. A smooth framerate for movies changes the experience dramatically, and in my experience, never in a good way. Every time I see this kind of thing (for the most part in Michael Mann films), I fail to see the characters and instead can't stop myself from seeing the actors. Peter Jackson got a lot of skepticism thrown his way when he aired his intention to film The Hobbit at 48 fps, and that's for a good reason.

That phrasing begs the question: What on earth else have they been fucking up since you use the word "more"? It must be a LOT to justify that sentence.

You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon. I can't imagine it's any different with Tolkien.

When I caught Avengers at an AMC theater today, the trailer mix was slightly different, with the Hobbit trailer (which I guess isn't in this 48 fps stuff?) in there.

The Hobbit 2 becoming The Hobbit 2 & 3?

Quote
HitFix asked Jackson at Comic-Con if he and his team was in fact considering splitting "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" -- aka "The Hobbit 2."

"That's a discussion we're having, yeah," Jackson said. "We have certainly been talking to the studio about some of the material we can't film, and we've been asking them so we can do a bit more filming next year. Which, I don't know what would come of that, whether it'd be extended editions or whatnot. But those discussions are ongoing."

Ebert weighs in on the fps controversy.  I may not always agree with Ebert, but I do respect him.  He has some interesting points in that article.  He also has raised my interested in seeing just how good a film can look in 48 fps as opposed to the standard 24.
