A new Character called Tauriel will be played by Evangeline Lilly(Kate from Lost),who is an Elf,described as Daughter of Mirkwood and Barry Humphries(Dame Edna Everage) will be playing Gorkin the Goblin King who has only appeared in Lord of the Rings:Battle for Middle Earth II Video game

and IMDB HAVE got Benedict Cumberbatch(BBCs Sherlock) as the voice of Smaug as i think we may of been discussing a few pages back,it also has him listed as Necromancer (The Necromancer of Dol Guldur)

The Goblin King was under the mountains that the party took shelter in during the storm (where they were subsequently captured). I don't believe he ever had a name other than "Goblin King" in the book, though.

I can't put my finger on it, but the photos we're seeing of the dwarves just seems...off.  They're almost comical to me.  Hopefully this is just the setting in whch the photos are being taken and are not reflective of what we'll see onscreen.  Although Jackson has more than proven himself capable of handling the franchise with both style and wit, so I'm sure that's the case.

I'm impressed with what I'm seeing so far. It can't be an easy thing to introduce 13 new characters -- all short with beards -- to an audience, while making sure they're all unique, interesting, and easily recognizable. I have a feeling if Michael Bay were to try to tackle the job he'd just use the same actor and change the boot color in post.

It's interesting how much they've toned down the dwarf makeup from the earlier films.  Inevitable I suppose, given the need to let these actors distinguish themselves and the difficulty of acting through layers of plastic.  But its going to be weird looking at Gimli in comparison now.

Maybe its a father and son look,and not so much a Dwarf look,see this picture here of Gloin,Gimli's Father (Gloin is on the right,of the first pic),and then Gimli in the picture on the right


and also it maybe an age thing also,at the time of LOTRs,Gimli was 139 years old, if you scroll up and look again at the oldest of Bilbo's troupe and see pictures of Balin and Dwalin they look to have more make-up on,while the youngest Fili and Kili look to have pretty much no make-up on

It looks to me like they are using prosthetics for their fingers. At least the awkward sword grip in Thorin's picture indicate this, and the fingers look sort of "wrong".

That was my first thought too, but the more I looked at the picture, the more convinced I was that prosthetics are involved. The fingers look too large and sort of off for the actor. It's not like it's the first time they do this kind of thing either. John Rhys-Davies was covered in prosthetics in LOTR (which it turned out he was allergic to, leading to lots of pain and suffering), and even something as simple as Gandalf's nose was made bigger that way.

all the other posters look genuine,but they are all out this year,so perhaps the Hobbit one is just temporary

been looking for that picture that Frodo originally is in with Sting,i think its from the attack on Weathertop in Fellowship,can't find the picture though
EDIT:this will have to do,just a minute or two after this scene,and just before he drops his sword in fear(i think)
