Anyone else catch this? Just dropped into the theater here in Australia to watch it yesterday and really, really enjoyed it. Fantastic soundtrack too! Am I alone?

He's neither!

I just saw the one from 1947.  It was really quite good and I'm not a fan of old movies.  Now I can see the new one  and do a comparison.

I'm a huge fan of old movies, especially from the '40s, so I'm interested in your comparison.

I thought the preferred term was 'murse'.

They didn't use the term in Seinfeld, as I recall.  I guess it depends if you're a Scrubs fan or not.

Saw it last night. Was probably the best role I've seen Ben Stiller in (and I have enjoyed other Stiller movies).

His awkwardness isn't cringe-inducing.

Really odd preview set - Rio 2, some other cartoon, then Son of God, Noah, and some movie about saving art from the Nazis. Two of those do not belong in front of a comedy.

The family went last night, and all really enjoyed it.

There were a couple of minor nitpicks I had while watching that the movie solved itself as it went on.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Why would he have a passport if the only place he'd been to was Phoenix?  But then when he's doing his checkbook at Papa John's, you can see items for a passport photo and rush passport processing (which was actually about the right price at $400).

The other big issue was that it was fairly obvious where the maguffin picture was the whole time.  But the movie made that less important as it went on.  And it was also clear that the photo was going to be of Mitty himself, but there was still curiosity over what the photo would actually be (I was expecting a shot of him dreaming, but the final photo worked better).

Dialing down the product placement might have been nice, but they were all integrated fairly organically.  Life itself was used beautifully.  My wife actually works in that same building, and her division was just acquired by Time, Inc (though they'd been working with them all along), so it was especially interesting for us.  Also, I'm friends with Iceland on Facebook, so that was exciting (not kidding).

Overall, we thought it was a wonderful film.  I don't know that I'd nominate it for Best Picture, but in a way, it's better than that.  It's a small, completely satisfying film.

You mentioned that you know people in Iceland (or are you friends with the entire country?)

Spoiler for Hiden:
In the movie, when he finds the thumb, there is a comment that in Greenland there are only eight people.

Saw it tonight with the girlfriend, and we also really liked it.
Spoiler for Hiden:
The only thing that took me out of the moment in the entire movie was his ability to get clear cell reception in the most remote places... 18,000 ft up in the Himalayas... On a remote stretch of road between the only two cities in Iceland..Afghanistan...  When I went to Europe last year my Verizon smartphone wouldn't work on their network without some insane world plan (Gfs Iphone was a simple phone call to turn worldwide data on tho  crybaby) and how was his old school flip phone even working after a swim in the north Atlantic?  Girlfriend really liked the Benjiman Button daydream too.

I'd be curious to see if:

Spoiler for Hiden:
A) the photographer is visible in the shot where he's in the final Time cover
B) Whether they have a satellite phone bill on his list of expenses

Spoiler for Hiden:
For what it's worth, I believe you can now get mobile internet access on Mount Everest, so getting a cell phone signal isn't out of the question.

Ah, got it!

Actually, yes, I am friends with the entire country of Iceland on Facebook.  The country posts some amusing things.

For A):

Spoiler for Hiden:
Do you mean the shot in the movie?  Because the shot we're he's sitting at that spot in the film takes place after he already has the negative.
