That picture reminds me of a story. My sister in law has an occasionally mischevious dog that often seems a little smarter than he should be. He was forced to stay inside while the other dogs were swimming because he had gotten into some sort of trouble. While left alone, he climbed up on the couch and dropped a big one right on the cushions.

In the vein of loving pets, I will share Wil Wheaton's blog post about losing one pet, adopting another, and sponsorship for his local Humane Society.  I highly recommend reading the whole thing.

Seamus is in our lives because of people like you, who read my blog and supported Anne and me when we decided to celebrate the memory of our awesome dog, Ferris, and did the Wiggle Waggle Walk for the Pasadena Humane Society in 2009.

Anne and I were pretty convinced that we shouldn't get another dog until at least after the holidays, but during the five hours we were at the Wiggle Waggle Walk, we completely fell in love with DOG (who eventually was named Seamus, even though I really lobbied hard to call him Batman), and we decided that we would adopt him.

We never would have met Seamus if we hadn't decided to honor Ferris' memory by raising money for the Pasadena Humane Society. We wouldn't have met Seamus if you hadn't given so many donations, large and small, and pushed us into the top few fundraisers -- in less than a week, even -- in 2009. We wouldn't have met Seamus if the Pasadena Humane Society wasn't there to save dogs and other animals like him who are abandoned by their owners, and need a safe place to live until they can find a family.

As of this morning, before I hit publish on this post, we're almost 1/3 of the way to our $15,000 goal. Belatedly, some better quality (used my real camera for the first time in a while for cat pix) pics of my buddy JJ...




I noticed him "nesting" in one of these Target fabric boxes I usually use for piled up magazines, so I bought him a couple of his own to snooze in.  


JJ has a pathological need to snuggle on your chest instead of your lap.   And to leap into my lap while I'm using my computer -- I've learned to put a blanket on or something else to "prepare."   Unlike my late cat Molly, JJ loves to be held closely and you can 99% of the time squeeze him like a Teddy Bear and he's content. The other 1 percent, you need to be aware of when he's had enough.  

I'm afraid his coated red nametag the Animal Welfare League made for me is corroding, probably from getting dipped in his set cat food. I'll have to see if I can get him one made of something more resistant to that.
