Most of the toys in ATB's That One Toy thread hail from circa 1985, about 22 years ago.  So what are today's toys that today's generation will reminisce about in 22 years?  (Let's keep video games out of the equation.)

I know we've got a number of forumers with kids who can give first hand information, but for my own submission I'm going to have to go on the toys I've seen that my inner child is pining after.

First up for me are the masterpiece edition Transformers.  I splurged on Optimus Prime and his trailer, but I would love to scrounge together some money for the Megatron and Starscream versions that have been released.  I suppose the fanciest versions (Legend edition?) of the new movie Transformers would be really neat to have, but when I was in a Toys R Us recently I could only find the low end "push a button to sorta transform" versions.

If I was a kid today I'll bet I'd still be begging for the latest and greatest LEGO sets.  The huge Star Wars collector editions are appealing to me now, but if I was 8 again I'll bet I'd want something like the Hogwart's Castle:

On the castle theme, I remember seeing these pre-built castle toys that looked really really neat.  The knight figurines didn't look poseable, but there seemed to be a huge selection of castles and units, and I think the catapults looked like they would really work.

I could also see myself asking Santa for the Nerf sniper rifle:

Or wow, look at this!  An interactive R2-D2!

So those of you with kids, what are they begging for that you know they'll probably never receive?  Those of you without, any toys out there now that you think you'd be ga-ga over if you were a kid again?

Hell, I'm not a kid and I'm still going to ask Satan for that Nerf Sniper Rifle.

Think about it.  It's all about the video games now.

You didn't read the instructions in the first paragraph!

Seriously though, I figured video games would be the primary toy of today, but surely there's some new generation of merchandise-pushing cartoons that has kids begging, no?  Perhaps Spider-Man, X-men, or Pirates of the Caribbean related toys?

I want a real lightsaber to cut through ignorant masses.

It doesn't look like you need to clean em or even get rid of the bodies. And there doesn't seem to be any bloodspray.

They won't want anything.

Toys today are crap.  The vehicles come pre-loaded with 'authentic sound effects'. Bah! You call that using your imagination?

Also, the vehicles shoot. Fat chance you hit anything. There was nothing like guiding a rocket or missle on c. 1980s GI JOE and Cobra vehicles into their target and making stuff blow up.

Heck, I make some of the best gun shot and explosion noises I know.

Kids 22 years from now? They'll have no idea how to do it.

Get off my effin lawn!

I used to open all of the clicky-pens in the house and raid them for their springs. I would then recycle the springs in my Transformers rocket-launchers, guns, etc. (no springloaded swords mind you, but that sounds about as safe as sword-chucks).

My Skyfire / Jetfire rocket launcher had 4 springs in it and could stick a rocket into unpainted gyprock.

Have you considered venturing into the land of Nerf gun modification?  Some of the mods I've seen on the internet look like they could launch a nerf dart through a frozen turkey.

I bet that none of the Mattel line for 2006-2007 will be on the desired list in 22 years.  Another frigging recall...unbelievable.
