I swear, I'm going to do it this time. My best attempt so far has been to get about 8 hours in.  It's not that I don't like the book, it's just that it's hard to get 37 hours of listening done without getting sidetracked somehow.  And listening in bed just doesn't work well - suddenly you wake up and you've missed 15-30 minutes of book. This should be perfect motivation to get on the elliptical.

Just a little update on this, not that anyone cares smile  I have managed to get about 26 hours into the 37 hour total and the story has gotten quite good. As each chapter started for the first half I would get encouraged or discouraged based on the name. Aria - good. Jon-ok. Tyrian-good. Sansa-ok. Bran-eh, etc. Now all the chapters are getting good, except for Dani - her chapters have been pretty lame all around.

Audio books are great for driving. It makes the work commute much faster. I get through 1-2 books a month from the library while driving around town.

I felt the same way, especially the dreams, except
Spoiler for Hiden:
Theon just seized Winterfell, and that was a Bran chapter. Started off crappy, too, with some long sequence of Bran dreaming he was a dire wolf and sniffing around.

I've read them all (with my eyes) and loved them.  Can't remember Clash of Kings very well (was that the first one?).  I'd like to go back and reread them all before the new one comes out, but they're so damn long.  Also, supposedly they're making an HBO series.

Enjoyed the reader of the first three books....this last guy not so much.  This was a much more painful transition than the Frank Muller to George Guidall one for the Dark Tower series.  The new reader for Clash of Kings just isn't that good IMO.

Do you mean a Feast for Crows? Yeah, this guy, Roy Dotrice (sp?) is quite good.  That's too bad that they lost him. One of the great things about the Harry Potter audio books is that Jim Dale did all 7. Little bit of trivia - a different guy does the British Harry Potter audio books.  Seems kind of silly, no?

Yes Feast for Crows, a guy named Lee reads it.....looking at preorder at Amazon can't see who reads the next one.....can only hope Roy makes a comeback.  If you ever listen to Dark Tower series the transition from Muller to Guidall is jarring but Guidall grows on you, Lee will never grow on me.

Nuts, I already have the audiobook - now I feel like I should read it instead.  I think I got the book with audible credits though, so I probably wouldn't be losing much if I never listened to it.

I've listened to audiobooks for years and have found that I am most successful at completing them when I do other things like exercise, drive, grocery shop, etc. while listening. Anyone who can listen while sitting or lying down - without falling asleep or daydreaming - is impressive.

Unabridged audiobooks are an awesome resource but I have to be moving or my mind will drift away no matter what the story.

OK, I have about 5 hours left and things have started moving at lightning pace.

 icon_eek at
Spoiler for Hiden:
Bran and Rickin's murder. The way it was handled at the time (completely "off screen") I was sure that the news was just a rumor and they would turn up. Martin is just ruthless. Not that I care too much as neither Bran or Rickin were very interesting. But killing them both off was a big surprise. I'm hoping Theon meets a fitting end, but at this point I can't make any assumptions.

EDIT: OK, I just read something at wikipedia that leads me to believe all may not be as it seems.  I better not do that again.

Uh, keep listening she came into her own in a pretty big way.

I was way late to the party on this series and for some reason it took me well over a year to make it through Clash of Kings.  I had a couple false starts--not because the book was bad but because my routines weren't lending themselves to reading at all.  I'm a little over halfway through A Storm of Swords now.  I guess I'm finally over all the raunchy stuff that I feel is so not needed (no I'm not a prude).  It really bothered me in the first book but story is so damn good that I've come to terms pretty easily.

I must have just reached that point because I almost said 'F*ck that' at 2:30 in the morning in bed while my wife was asleep.  Was it about 2/3 through A Storm of Swords?

EDIT: As an aside:  Tolkien holds a place of its own for me but that aside this is the best story I've ever read.  The character development is amazing.  I've never felt empathy with characters (even the 'evil' ones) like this.
