Well,i like John Oliver...but 8 weeks without Jon Stewart???(12 weeks including the usual 4 week summer break)

The Wrap

Jon Stewart will be taking 8 weeks off to direct a film about an Iranian Journalist
Quote
"Daily Show" host Jon Stewart will take the summer off to direct a film about an Iranian journalist who has appeared on his show, and correspondent John Oliver will fill in for Stewart as host, Comedy Central said.

Stewart's eight weeks off come in addition to about four weeks of repeats each summer, meaning viewers will have to go nearly three months without fresh doses of Stewart's incisive, sarcastic political commentary.

Quote
Stewart, who has hosted Comedy Central's flagship show since 1999, will direct his first film, the drama "Rosewater," from a screenplay he wrote. It is an adaptation of the 2011 book “And Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival” by Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy.

Bahari was accused of being a spy and imprisoned by the Iranian government shortly after "Daily Show" correspondent Jason Jones interviewed him in Iran in 2009. Bahari appeared as a guest on "The Daily Show" in June 2011, and told Stewart that he was not imprisoned because of the "Daily Show" interview, but because his captors wanted an excuse to lock him up.

I might enjoy it more really depending on whether they change the direction a bit. I can only take so much of Jon due to his super partisanship these days... Colbert works much better for me.

You do realize he's only pretending to be a Republican, right? I don't find Jon that partisan. He often tears Democrats a new one.

Yes, of course I get that Colbert is making fun of Republicans too, but its not mean-spirited the way the Daily Show is these days. And yes, Jon will occasionally make fun of Democrats, but his interviews and such are from a VERY strong viewpoint whereas Colbert is more about having fun. I used to love the Daily Show, and Jon was my graduation speaker in college, just saying its gone too far for years now from my perspective.

Jon tears into Dems more than occasionally. I am looking forward to Oliver, as it could be an interesting change. Plus, Jon might come back rejuvenated for more TDS.

How are you guys finding John Oliver?

I guess there is a break.because tonights episode was a repeat of June 10ths show

I have been enjoying John Oliver, and been laughing quite a lot,and takes it on the chin with the jokes about him filling in for Stewart or him being British saywhat

The interviews seem a tad awkward though,he doesn't have the same chemistry as Stewart does with his guests, but it's still not awful

anyway, yup enjoying John Oliver, but will be happy when Jon Stewart comes back

even CC tweeted that tonights episode goes on about The Cosby Show, but it was definitely an old one(i DVR'd it),said June 10th and John Oliver opened with,"lets admit it,this is weird"(his comment about starting to fill in for Jon)

I am thinking even though it was only 10 minutes ago when i sent CCUK that tweet,i may not get an answer tonight, just realised its 1:35am paranoid

I'm digging Oliver. He has a different style, very enthusiastic, and he definitely reminds of me of some of the TV I would watch on Sky and other channels while stationed in Europe.

well John Olivers time is more or less up,this is his last week

I have enjoyed JO being in the hotseat, but i am looking forward to JS coming back

and apparently John Oliver owes Piers Morgan 10 grand that he promised a few nights ago for anyone who found/had this footage

I have not seen tonights show yet(Wednesday night as we are a day behind),so hoping he mentions this
Piers Morgan demands John Oliver make good on $10,000 offer

I am also going to miss the Carlos Danger dance

Well, as much as I'm looking forward to Stewart returning, I do hope that Oliver gets his own show soon, as I really enjoyed his time as host.

The thing is,we(in the UK),only get The Daily Show,we don't get The Colbert Report or anything like that...so if he had his own show,it would be doubtful our Comedy Central would have that

so i certainly want to keep seeing him as a TDS 'reporter'

He used to be on our Mock The Week(same thing really, panel show making fun of weeks headlines),but since being in Yankland,he very rarely appears on British TV now

I may be in the minority but I thought Stewart was getting old and all his rants were basically the same thing. Oliver was fresh, and I will miss him.

Agreed. Stewart seemed to be getting tired/burnt out (but I still like him a lot). Hopefully the break did him some good. I really liked Oliver, he has to be getting some offers at this point.

I'm not sure I'd want a third show like The Daily Show / Colbert Report though.  There is a lot of repetition between those two, and three would be too much.  I did enjoy his run FAR more than I expected to though!

Agreed, CC doesn't really have room for him. I was thinking the networks and other cable channels. He did a decent job with interviews, so it obviously wasn't the writers carrying him.

All I get is a message in the video box stating:

"SORRY BUT THIS VIDEO IS UNAVAILABLE FROM YOUR LOCATION.
IN CASE YOU CAN'T GIVE UP YOUR FREE HEALTHCARE AND MOVE TO AMERICA, YOU CAN WATCH THE DAILY SHOW WITH JOHN STEWART ON www.thecomedynetwork.ca"

Yeah, they yelled it at me.
