Talk to me about Vietnam

The Vietnam of the last five years or so, that is. Anyone been, or living there?
Going to be there for three weeks next month, and I'm trying to dig up some tips and suggestions on where to spend my time. I'll be based mostly out of Saigon (I know, officially Ho Chi Minh City, but it seems like even the Vietnamese still tend to call it Saigon) in the South, but a train trip up north isn't out of the question.

I think the Vietnamese cognoscenti of Gone-Gold-That-Was were
Lost in Transition
. Can we send out search parties to all forums in the gaming world? Just so I can get an answer?
In the interim, I'm going with the Graham Greene tour. Find a young woman who represents to me the intractable beauty of Asia and wallow in the world-weariness that only an opium pipe can make right.

No worries. I grew up in Asia, and spent a couple years in the Peace Corps in rural Africa. Traveling hardships I can handle. I'd just like to get some ideas about events or places I shouldn't miss.
