It'll drop like $10-20, and then when people realize that .... nothing is changing...it'll go right back.

That's fine, I buy stock on a 6 month swign, so I get 85% of the price of the lowest point, start or finish of the buyijng period. It started at $390ish. More stock for me, long-term.

If even then. Which is why it's so utterly ridiculous that the stock is dropping now.

It stands to reason that the perceived value of the stock (which is all that matters) has certainly gone down with the leadership change.

the problem with the stock market and the reason it's ridiculous is that the perceived value may as well be the actual value and the perceived value changes all the time based on stuff that doesn't actually affect how the business is run.
Things could change that will increase profit, and if enough people think it's a risky change stock could plummet. It's stupid. Stock shouldn't change until the actual value of the company changes. When companies post a loss, stocks should go down and vice versa, but it doesnt' work that way. It's the most absurd subjective thing about the business world imo.

The Stock Market has nothing to do with how well a compnay is doing long term.
It doesn't even have much to do with how a company is doing short term.
It's all kneejerk reactions to how a company is doing RIGHT THIS MINUTE made by people who are guessing that it might change in the next few weeks.
It's become all about short-term profit instead of long-term stability.

On the flip side, if you look at the stock from day-to-day sure the fluctuations look wonky and somewhat random. But if you expand it out to the last 5 years then you can at least see the general trend. I bet 5 years from now I won't be able to look at the Apple stock timeline and point out when exactly Jobs resigned.

PVP Online's Brent weighs in... http://www.pvponline.com/2011/08/25/jobs-loss/If Jobs can remain plugged in on basic product design, brainstorming etc., I'm sure he will. Given his health in recent years, better to let him focus on that than deal with all the stress and headaches the CEO position brings with it (even if he's mostly working from home apparently). I don't know if anyone's worried about day-to-day Apple as much as losing him as the pitchman at big product unveilings. imho even when he says things that aren't true (which he has done, numerous times in these presentations, when slamming Android or Windows or what have you), he still gets the eyeballs to tune in. It just hasn't seemed the same when some seemingly milquetoast/bland other Apple official fills in. There are probably also concerns whether other Apple execs there will "crack the whip" or play the bad guy as Jobs seemed to have no trouble doing, if he thought it was necessary to improve a product. In real life I've mostly been "too nice for my own good" or as one newspaper editor scolded me, "your problem is you want everyone to like you." Steve Jobs would devour me for lunch. I appreciate everything he has accomplished even if I think I wouldn't want to work for him.

A pic of a frail Steve Jobs. Ugh. I'm not a huge Apple fan, but I respect everything Jobs did for Apple and computing in general. I really hope that he can come back from this, because he doesn't deserve to go out like this.

If it were different circumstances, I would say it looks positively fetching on him.
And frankly, there are very few people who would deserve to have this happen to. It's just a shame that it's happening to him.

Judging by how frail he looked during his last two keynotes, I'd say he's been that thin for quite some time.

someone over at OO had a post that detailed where and how that picture was photoshopped. That doesnt mean that Jobs is healthy but the pic exaggerates his condition.
and the outfit looks kind of like a nuns habit.

This passage in a CNN piece made me LOL... http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/innovation/08/25/tim.cook.apple.employees.ars/index.html?hpt=hp_bn7In person, Cook is gruff and assertive, but in a way that makes people feel secure -- this is no doubt part of the reason why Apple has slowly been introducing Cook to the public via Apple keynotes over the last few years. In the public's eye, Cook has become the Riker to Jobs' Picard -- and people generally like Riker. I could metaphorically compare Jobs to a lot of fictional characters but... Captain Picard?

Well, he is definitely thinner and lighter than Kirk (in keeping with the Apple focus).
