I have seen this posted on most entertainment news sites and I think it is neat but I am more surprised by how excited people are for any scrap of news.  Don't get me wrong, I am interested in the film but I remember watching the leaked trailer for Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and being so excited for it...then actually seeing it.  I think it scared me because I just can't believe this will be a great movie.  I hope to be wrong but I think I will just have to wait.

I think Alias was a great show but I found Star Trek: Into Darkness terrible and Star Trek no much better.

How would you rate the two Star Treks compared to Phantom Menace?

Oddly I just rewatched Ep 1 with my kids because I figured they were old enough now and it is pretty tame really...

Anyway I would say the 2 new Treks certainly had more ... weight but less grandeur.  I think of Star Wars as a grand epic and the two Treks didn't feel that way at all they felt very tiny really.  You see a few different races but it seems to only take 10-15 minutes to get from Earth to Kronos (I am sure a Trekkie will say I spelled it wrong) and you never get a sense of any Klingon culture.  They do feel like just action flicks.  Star Wars doesn't feel that way to me.  It always felt like there was something bigger about it.

Cast has been announced!!!

http://starwars.com/news/star-wars-episode-7-cast-announced.html

Quote
The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Where's Wedge???? Bring your own!

While it's all well and good, I'm 49 now, not 12-18 (my age during the original trilogy). I don't respond to the same things in movies or TV anymore (yeah I still see spring-summer movies I love 3-5 times), though obviously SW in its heyday appealed to everyone across all ages. I wish JJ and co. best of luck in finding that sort of broad appeal again in an era where the Internet monitors and analyzes every millisecond of your work.  icon_smile

Well, there's another rumor from just a few days back claiming that the title is The Order of the Jedi and that the bad guy will not be a Sith.

Rumors. Grain of salt. You know the rest.

Rumors. Grain of salt. You know the rest.

That source also lists the following rumors:

Luke Skywalker will now be an Obi Wan Kenobi-like mentor figure
Princess Leia is now "Queen Regent of the Republic"
Han Solo is "High Commander of the Republic"
The bad guy will not be a Sith Lord
A press release unveiling other major plot details is scheduled for May 4th

Those first three are guesses that I could have made in '83.  The fourth is a 50/50 shot.  And the last one already didn't happen.

For The Ancient Fear, Harry Knowles has been chasing the rumored title for a month, and only now had some kind of solid lead back it up.  And it's still just a working title.

I'm hoping Sydow's character will be an old Imperial Navy officer who's trying to topple the New Republic with some kind of ancient weapon of some sort.

Just came to post that

Looper's Rian Johnson Is The Director Of Star Wars: Episode VIII

Quote
He will also reportedly be the scriptwriter of Episode IX, but not the director. Man, not only is Disney is getting their Star Wars biz together quickly, they're hiring some real scifi talent with Johnson, Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank. It's getting immensely difficult not be excited about the future of Star Wars.

Uh oh.

I haven't had a chance to read this yet, so forgive me if this is covered, but when I first heard about his injury, the twisted, cynical side of me wondered if this "accident" wasn't a response to Disney's pressure to get this film out during a specific time frame, ready or not.

Kevin Smith got to visit the set.  He couldn't talk about most of it, but he did get to visit one particular location...and his childhood.

He talks about it in a longish video (that goes by quite quickly).

People all over the internet have been saying that it's a Z-95, or based on it.

Apparently though, it's heavily based on some original Star Wars paintings of the X-Wing where it had the exact same sleeker shape.

Of course, I love that they took the time to put plenty of wear on it. The problem with the prequels wasn't the seemingly out of place tech, but rather that nothing looked like it was used.

Those aren't jet engines, but fusial thrust engines. At any rate, they are the engines for the ship.

I wonder if these new stormtrooper helmets will allow the stuntmen and extras wearing them to actually see where they're going.

Otherwise, I'm not too sure about the new look, but I'll wait until it's actually in the movies. If anything, it could be a nice update once you see it with proper lighting and effects. It does look like the kind of thing that would show up after 30 years of refining.
