Unfortunately, the only one you'll be able to see before the world ends is Phantom Menace. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46774An official announcement is expected from LucasFilm Wednesday.
“The Phantom Menace” will be the first out of the gate in early 2012, according to the report. Then, if box office warrants, “Attack of the Clones” in early 2013, “Revenge of the Sith” in early 2014, “A New Hope” in 2015, “Empire Strikes Back” in 2016 and “Return of the Jedi” in 2017.

I'm, um, actually looking forward to this.
Granted, I don't care as much about Ep 1, but I'll still go. If only to make it more likely that I'll get to see the trench run in 3D!

the pod race will be worth the price of the ticket alone...but fuck....2017 until its all done???
Star Wars Death Star trench run will be good,as will the Speeder bike chase from Jedi
so,3D TVs are just coming out,but by the time these(at least as a box set) are released on DVD or BR whatever in 3D,3D will prolly be dead in the water again...most of us are sick of 3D already!!!

My main issue with this is that these movies were not designed with 3D in mind, so they will probably just look crappy and that this is nothing more than a cash grab. If Lucas wants my money he can re-releaese the unedited original trilogy on Blu-ray or in theaters. I'm sure plenty of people will willingly part with their money for that.

Yeah, I'm in as well. With as many times as I rewatch those movies, he could put them out on the big screen again right now with no 3D and the kids and I would be there to see 'em all at least once (Ep IV and Ep V as many times as possible). Fuck all you haters.

It's the Disney strategy. Put them back out every seven years to have the kids extort another round of toy money out of their parents.

actually if you think about it, Lucas at least put it in the order such that the original trilogy will get the box office record sales and hype they deserve (since they come last). Especially if the 3D technology keeps advancing year after year.

Good point. However, Han will still have shot second in the 3d version, and creepy ghost of Hayden Christiensen will still be staring down at you at the end of jedi. Additionally, I bet he will throw in additional stupid - as he does with every edit of the movies.

But Disney's in a unique position, since their films are on a natural cycle anyway (kids grow too old for them, then want to rediscover them when they get a little older, then want to share with their kids [there are always more kids]). Most importantly, though, is that the whole Vault business lends elevates the films even beyond the pure classic status they currently have. This goes great until Fox & the Hound or Oliver & Co. have to go back. Then the whole thing is spoiled.

The 1997 re-releases started in January and were quite successful so the timeframe makes sense.

Because he is George Lucas. I'm starting to wonder if his own ego would rival Charlie Sheen's.

I might go see one or two of them (certainly Revenge of the Sith) just to see the quality of the conversion, but the real ticket is in 2015 when Star Wars (fuck you A New Hope) hits. My son will be the same age I was when I first saw it. 3D or no, I'm going to see Star Wars with my son in the theater and showing him what an experience that is.

At this point I don't care what he does with the original trilogy, just as long as he lets someone else with untarnished talent make the next chapter-Thrawn trilogy, or an Old Republic trilogy. Rehash after prequel after rehash just doesn't cut it Mr Lucas. I'm not that big a fan of 3D w/shades, so I'm out on this.

It's pretty funny old Darth Maul gets the center of the poster when he has no backstory (some of the books gave him one, so probably you can read those and maybe it'll make him seem more interesting in the movie), and gets just when he's threatening to become interesting. I remember a conversation with my newspaper's sports editor... "Well, Darth Maul is pretty cool." "But what's his story? Who is he? Why do we care?" "Uhhh, and he's got a double blade light saber. That's cool!" "How does he relate to anything else in the movie?" "Look, he's red, he's got horns on his head, he's got a double blade light saber! What the hell more do you want?" We didn't resolve our conversation.
