I didn't realize TNG was finally announced for Blu-Ray.  Very happy to hear about it!  Apaprently they have done a lot of painstaking work to make episodes in 1080p (still 4:3 though).  There's a preview disc out now with a few episodes to whet your appetite:

Don't know if anyone has seen this yet.  I just grabbed one at Best Buy, can't wait to check it out.

yeah, if you look at the compare video on the Amazon page it's incredible how well they cleaned up.  of course after seeing the blu ray transfer of TRON I can believe it's possible.

[edit]  I'm afraid to see how much the full seasons are going to cost though.  the Original Series blu ray collection is $182.99 (and that's amazon's price, not full retail), and that's only 3 seasons....

Here's a good preview of it:

For anyone wanting technical details, here's an interesting article by the Okudas:

I watched the first half of "Encounter at Farpoint" - it's not perfect, but it is really really good.  They didn't drastically alter the effects like they did with TOS.  And there's nothing you can do about the wooden acting of the first couple of seasons.  But it looks much better than a 20 year old TV series has any right to.  The opening orchestral score sounds amazing to boot.

It's so clear even Geordi can see the difference.

I actually purchased the entire original series on blu ray when Best Buy was trying to unload the season sets.  I got each of them for around 30 bucks a pop.
