The increase, the first in three years, was not expected to take effect before early next year, the commission said in a statement.

The cost of a first-class postage stamp will rise from 37 to 39 cents while the cost of sending a postcard will increase by one penny to 24 cents, the commission said.

Guess I'll have to ease up on that tip jar. slywink

Speaking of stamps, every year my stepmother gives all of us "adult" kids a roll of stamps for christmas (among other gifts) and its pretty cool. Just something to think about with the holidays coming up and you are looking for a "useful" gift for folks. You could also get a decorative stamp roll holder for the first year.

In my oh so very humble opinion, stamps are still a helluva bargain.

My radio station has said time and time again:

"Just raise the price of a stamp to 50 cents and never bother us again."

I can't even remember the last time I used a stamp.  I pay all my bills via the internets or the phone.

I just hate having to buy those damned two-cent stamps to make up the difference.  I just got a new book this week and hope I run out by then.

OMG, can they PLEASE just make it 40 cents?  WTF already, I'm so damn tired of them moving it one or two pennies every year.

Stamps are still a super deal!! I get letters from people on the East coast (I'm in OR) in TWO days! I'm not going to complain about a two cent increase.

What I'd like to complain about is my natural gas rate going up *53%* in the last five years!! Now that SUCKS!!!

I'm not complaining about the price, I'm complaining about the denomination, and it being a moving fucking target.

I have an idea- why don't they just make stamps 'market price', like buying a fish dinner at a restaurant?  If it goes up, raise the price of stamps, if it goes down, lower what you sell them for.  But LEAVE MY OLD FUCKING STAMPS ALONE!!!!!11111!!!one

Ok, I feel better new.

I'll try not to think about the fact that my current book of stamps doesnt even have what denomination they are printed on the stamp.  Such things might make me go postal  Tongue

Sure it still "seems" like a deal. But the problem is that it KEEPS going up in price, just like gas. I remember back in the days when it was well below 30 cents for a stamp.
You figure 10 cents extra a stamp, 30 of them is $3.00.  They say every penny helps (your wallet) and it's true.

More than stamps though, I'm really bothered by the high gas prices. Anyone remember back in the old days (which was only around 1999 or 2000) when gas was about 99 cents to $1.19 a gallon?

Oh well not that big of a deal by going up yet another 2 cents, but it's still a deal as they're going to keep bringing it up thinking they can get away with it since nobody seems to complain or even care. Wait until it's 50 cents a stamp.. then some eyes might start opening.

Probably in no small part because it takes quite a bit of gas to deliver the mail...
