I got caught doing 65 in a 55 by a traffic camera 4 years ago. I haven't been pulled over by a cop in almost 10 years.

The most egregious states for speeding tickets in the US

I went with "outrun the cops" as there's no option for "never."

My last speeding ticket was in the '80's.

It was for 75 in a 55.

My actual speed was actually closer to 150MPH.

I believe I have told this story before.  (Scroll down to page 8 )

I have had more recent tickets but those were for expired plates.

Got a ticket 4 years ago for an illegal turn after one of the worst weeks of my life as I just wanted to get home, damn the signs.

Got a PFJ and haven't gotten one since.

And that run in with the law has completely changed the way I drive. I almost never speed now.

My last (and only) ticket was for going 35 in a 25 at 11 PM on a Sunday night through a deserted college campus.    Roll Eyes

Stupid cop delayed me so long that Taco Bell closed before I got there.   finger

Every year, I drive out to the Berkshires on Route 2. For much of its length, Rte 2 is still a 2-lane highway passing through a lot of small towns. (Before the Pike was built, it was a major east-west thoroughfare; now it's more of a scenic route.) The speed limit fluctuates frequently.

Some of those towns -- I'm looking at you, Gill -- fund a substantial part of their annual budget with speed traps on Rte 2. I got caught in one of those 5 years ago. Even though I have a fast car, I'm usually a cautious driver. But of course one must accelerate to pass safely. The Gill police set up their speed trap right at the first passing zone for several miles and popped me moments after I blasted past a wallowing pickup truck. I exceeded the limit by 20 mph for maybe 10 seconds, and Gill's finest was there to record the moment.

It turns out that it's not legal to briefly break the speed limit when passing, if you can believe that.

Anyway, in MA we're allowed one moving violation before our insurance rates get jacked. I had to pay the $200 fine, but I've essentially been on probation for the past five years. One more ticket would send my insurance into the stratosphere. I've obsessively followed all those speed limit changes on my annual Rte 2 sojourn ever since. Suck it, Gill!

Even though I drive a red sports car, that was my only ticket in 40 years. My record will be clean again for insurance purposes next year.

45 in a 35 zone. I bet if I went back I couldn't even find the sign. Who does 35 on a 4 lane?  Ah well

2005 - 65 in a 55.  Cop thought it was a 45 and near a day care and wanted to write it up as such.  He was right about the Day Care, wrong about the speed as it was posted less than 0.1 miles before I was pulled over.  He was none too happy I knew about the sign.

I think the last speeding ticket I got was back in '96.  I also quit driving my '69 GTO around that time, which I'm sure had no effect on that.   ninja

I did get a couple warnings when making the long drive from Colorado up to northern ND to visit family.  Long stretches of empty backroads Wyoming and South Dakota are just asking for a little extra gas, and I think when those cops heard where I was driving they understood.  smile

I got a warning during my last week of high school for doing a California stop through a T-intersection on my way home.

Since then, not so much as a warning - I drive a big, heavy car, but not a particularly fast one, so it's fun to throw around back roads at right around the speed limit. On the Turnpike I'll go as fast as I want as long as someone's going faster than me. Seems to work.

And if I can get through the next three weeks until I move and give up my car, I should make it to 30 without ever getting a ticket.

Never had a ticket. I was stopped one time doing about 70km in a 50 but I explained that I was just coming into town and it felt like I was still on the highway. I was lucky that the cop let me off. smile

They just passed a new law here in Wyoming that allows you to break the speed limit by 10mph to pass.

I haven't had a speeding ticket since 1994, but my wife got one last month, last day of the month, going 35 in a 30.  Cop apologized and said he had to make quota for their grant (University cop).

Lame.  She paid the ticket and did an online traffic school to keep it off of our insurance.

I got a 65 in a 55 zone in 1989, and I think a 67 in a 55 zone (a toll road where folks regularly drive 75+) maybe around 2000. The 1989 one involved a couple sheriff's deputies asking me if I wanted a 45 in a 35 zone, or a 65 in a 55 zone. I assumed the latter is a "lesser" offense but really have no idea.

Off topic a bit, got a ticket from local police around 2006 for supposedly not fully stopping at a stop sign. And a similar thing for supposedly not fully stopping at a red light in 1993 in Maryland. That last one was the scariest. The guy was red-faced and yelling at me, "I SAW you! You ran RIGHT THROUGH IT!" I knew that (as much as any traffic stop) was a "don't say anything and just take your ticket" situation.

Although I've gone ahead and paid all four of those tickets, many friends say if they bother to show up in court, the officer generally doesn't and they're usually able to get a judge to drop it.

The only time officers let me off with just a warning was a couple local stops by police women. One said I was driving too fast in a downtown area and just urged me to "not be in a hurry." The other stopped me after I forgot to put my headlights on after leaving a gas station at night, and just reminded me to turn 'em back on. I'd love to say it's because I'm so cute  The Weghted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you., I just found those two instances (both in mid 1990s I think) the police women were understanding as long as I wasn't a jerk about it.

I forgot to mention that I was once pulled over for speeding within a mile of my house and the cop let me off with a warning because I was wearing my seat belt (as always). They like to see that. Being local probably didn't hurt either.
