To me the series is much more than what Hepcat portrayed.  i think they have actually done a pretty good job building up to what must inevitably come in a Spartacus story.

catching up on this will be my weekend project, can't believe I keep on forgetting to do so considering how often they seem to be running episodes.

let me recap the last 3 episodes for you:

fight, slow motion fight, boobies, slow motion fight, boobies, sex in tub, slow motion boobies, fight, gay sex, naked tub frolicking, slow motion fight, someone calls someone else a c#@k, gay sex, boobies.

let me respond to those with individual smilies:
smile smile  icon_biggrin smile  icon_biggrin  icon_mrgreen  drool smile  icon_neutral  icon_biggrin/ icon_neutral (depending on if it's related to previous smilie) smile  icon_lol  icon_neutral  icon_biggrin

you're right, I left out "everyone complains that it's too hot"...

i did say it's getting better in an earlier post.  i actually enjoy it for what it is:  lurid entertainment.  there's nothing wrong with that, though.

I think my problem with this show is total and complete lack of restraint.  I know the Romans weren't really know for restraint, but when you make Lawrence Olivier's oyster speech look like the model of subtlety, you're doing it wrong.

similar in that they used cuss words from time to time?  yes.  similar in that they injected "jupiter's c@ck" in sentences like, "good morning mother, i hope you're well today...as well as jupiter's c*ck, i mean.".  no.   icon_razz

"jupiter's c*ck, these are good waffles."

"hey bob, you get a chance to see the chariot races last night?  jupiter's c#ck, i thought Nero's Nose was gonna take it."

"hey honey, i was thinking of taking the kids to see the matinee for that new Pixar film, Jupiter's C*ck this saturday."

I haven't watched room in a while but I do remember Pullo and Marc Antony saying Jupiters C--k quite a bit.  In Rome they portrayed more of the upper class or dealings with upper class

These are gladiators after all and it is Capua not Rome.  We never said Jupiters balls or c-ck but out at sea on a submarine language can get colorful and gets "colorful rather frequently.  The first meal i ever sat down in crews mess on the Robert E. Lee as a young E-4 everyone at my table played let's see what will gross out the new guy and make him unable to eat.  I would think that gladiators and the rather low life street scum featured so much i Spartacus might just have a vocabulary that is lacking in social graces.

The language seems to fit the setting to me.

Not sure how many episodes are slated to be done but they sure are dragging out the gladiator part.  They have a whole slave rebellion and fighting Roman Legions part that I believe lasted the better part of a year to get through.

This series gets better with every episode.  Episode 10 is just  icon_eek thumbsup

Yeah the first few really blow chunks, but it quickly becomes mediocre, guilty fun and by now I'd say it's an excellent show.  Apparently, though, the main actor has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma so filming of season 2 is going to be delayed until he recovers.  mad

good to see Jupiter making a comeback.....at least a certain part of him is making a comeback.

Now we need the requisite South Park episode where they talk like gladiators to validate that Jupiter has indeed made a comeback....or at least his nether-regions

I really enjoyed her reaction to being made the butt of a practical joke in episode 9.     No sense of humor on that woman,  or Spartacus either for that matter.

I saw a clip from Spartacus last night.  It had Xena, topless and humping the oddball brother from the Mummy.

I didn't know whether to applaud or cry.

never saw the Mummy but Batiatus is the younger half of the gay couple in 4 Weddings and a Funeral.

I wondered how Spartacus was going to find out....but damn what a cheesy way to do it.

This really has become better with each episode and the slo-mo actually seems to fit much better and is done in moderation.  This will be something to own and watch more than once.
