Yeah, that's right - nearly 20 years after Spaceballs: The Movie, Spaceballs: The Animated Series (or whatever they'll be calling it) should be released on the G4 network. Via CNN:

Quote
LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Mel Brooks is developing an animated TV series based on his comedy feature "Spaceballs."

Like the 1987 movie, which parodied well-known science-fiction movies, "Spaceballs: The Animated Series" will spoof current blockbusters as well as every genre of entertainment from movies and reality TV to culture and politics.

It is set to debut on cable network G4 in fall 2007. Production has already started on an initial batch of 13 episodes.

Brooks, who will voice two characters in the show, co-wrote the pilot with longtime collaborator Thomas Meehan, who will oversee all writing for the series.

Considering G4 is not known for their quality productions and spoofs can be really hard to do decently and run out of steam quickly, I think this one deserves a cautious approach.

Actually, I was hoping G4 would make a good transition into a normal cable network that happened to have some good game related shows alongside normal TV shows.

I don't think they should grab a bunch of syndicated old stuff to replay, but this is a step in the right direction.

I bet it doesn't last two seasons.

Don't get me wrong here. I want it to. I'd love for it to turn out to be another great piece of Mel Brooks comedy.. I just don't see it actually working out that way.

Set to debut in fall of 07.. are we sure Mel Brooks will still be alive then?

Seriously, has anyone seen him lately? He was down here in Palm Beach Florida and my God, this guy looks like a walking rock!
It seems like just yesterday History of the world part 1 was coming out.. and even back then brooks must have been around 60.. and that movie is over 20 years old.
Great guy, love his movies, and thats why it's sad to see age have caught up with him so fast. It really is amazing how fast time flies by.

(Note this image is nearly a DECADE old.)

I watched Spaceballs for the first time in probably a decade a few months ago and, man, it totally didn't hold up for me.
