Did something really happen with CeeKay?
He spent New Year's Eve with hepcat and still hasn't recovered.

Christ, the most outlandish thing I did on New Year's Eve was drop the remote in between the couch cushions.  Talk about boring...

If you ever spend new years near New Phili hit me up. The Wife and I usually have people over and we drink. More than a little.  nod

If you play board games, let me know.  I'll put you on our annual board game get together for next Christmas.

In another thread someone said they'd talked with him via facebook and he was fine, but just taking a break from GT it seems.

Sorry about that! After posting I checked and saw that it had been you for a long time. Perhaps CeeKay was doing the mp3 deals?

No apologies necessary.  Sympathy cards would be nice...

Also, thanks for doing the Steam sales.

I think the puzzle is being figured out somewhere deep in my brain where only I can see it after drinking 4 coffees, 3 beers, eating 2 donuts, and smoking EXACTLY one cigarette. Then perhaps. Just trying to be healthy and do what I can whilst I solve this mystery.

Well they were calling for snow and ice. And again, we got nothing.
Man, wish I could give you some of ours.

It took my wife 3.5 hours to pickup my son from school yesterday.  Normally takes 15 minutes.

Schools called at 10:45 and said "we're canceling at 11.  It was chaos yesterday.

did it really get that bad in 3-4 hours or did they just not pay any attention to forecasts?

The South is just not prepared for any amount of snow.  I heard reports that it was "three fingers" deep, which is nothing, of course.  However, because this is such a rare occurrence, no one has snow tires (or even all-weather tires), the cities don't have plows ready to go (or any nearby, even) or salt/sand, and the drivers just aren't used to it (which tends to slow them down).

As a result, even that small amount of snow can lead to a "state of emergency" (which has been declared in at least one major city as of yesterday...I think Atlanta, maybe?).

We were hearing all kinds of reports of commutes that normally take a half an hour having people getting home at nearly 10pm last night.

That is the ultra simplified northern point of view version smile.  It wasn't snow on the roads it was 2 inches of ice with  snow on top.  It happened instantly during the commute and it was literally freezing under cars while they were stuck in traffic.  Then due to every single person in Atlanta trying to get home or to school or daycare at the same time it was a massive cluster.  Took me 8 hours with a 2 mile hike with my 4 year old to get home.  I had friends who slept on the highway, others never got to daycare.

sweet zombie jeebus.  sounds like it was the perfect storm.  glad you guys got home ok, even with a slog through snow.  I can't imagine having to get my 6 yo through a two mile hike, let alone through those kinds of conditions.  and with a full day stuck in a car to boot.

worst we had was about 4 years ago where the snow bottled us up before thanksgiving.  it took me 3 hours to get home with 2.5 on the bus.  some people had over 12 to get home and quite a few stayed over at the office.
