I understand that they are gone, probably for good. I got to thinking over the weekend about this: If you had the option to pay a monthly fee to access the GG forums, how much would you pay?

If it's mandatory, and you have to pay monthly to read/post in the forums, then I won't pay anything. But if it's donation, for something that I feel is worth it to the community, then I will pay up to $100 if necessary. It's all in the reason.
And that reminds me, what happened to all the donations you guys did for the plaques? I remember Rich saying he didn't touch it at all. If he did indeed cut'n'run on GG, wouldn't this be considered take-and-run?

I would not pay anything for the Gone Gold forums. As much as I loved the Gone Gold forums, no forum is worth paying a monthly fee for IMHO.
It seems that Console Gold is a great place, very mature and inviting for new members. I do not understand why people are so hung up on getting Gone Gold back. It's down for now and there is nothing we can currently do about it. If Gone Gold is gone for good then say goodbye and be happy that not everything completely fell apart. The community is still alive and that is the most important thing.
I'll miss Gone Gold but I won't let the shutdown of that website stop me from enjoying our new home.

I'd pay exactly what I do...my hosting fees to keep the place open. If I run into trouble I'll ask for donations, but subscriptions just to read and post? Never happen...

About the plaques, I dontated twice. The first time, I got a plaque, but the second donation was never mentioned. Paypal credited Rich's account, but whether he ever took I never went back and checked. He's welcome to use the money for whatever he wants - I put no strings on it. I never was a frequent poster or in any of the GG cliques that formed and broke apart over the years, but GG was always special to me. I've got an idea that an expiration date came and went, hence the disconnect, and that there are extinuating circumstances with Rich. I pray he's well and not in pain, and that all works out - regardless of whether or not GG comes back.

I understand that there are operating cost involved with anything. Someone has to pay for it -- ads are obnoxious and subjecting to The Man -- I'd do a voluntary donation
Something like: Post what the operating cost are and where the funds are compared to that operating cost. IMHO, people will be receptive to that kind of openness and will be more willing to contribute once they understand the expenses involved.
Whether it be GG or CG or whatever.

Not that I think there is anything wrong with speculation, I tend to think it is somewhat...ungrateful and demeaning to Knightshade and his crew who took the GG community in, will likely incur further expenses because of it, has made changes to his forums already for the GG'ers, yet we are talking about paying money to go back to forums that were ganked out from under us with NO word at all? Just sounds a tad...something.

$0
I'd be willing to donate to keep a forum open that I liked, but forced subscriptions are not good.

I'll miss Gone Gold but I won't let the shutdown of that website stop me from enjoying our new home. Exactly. Gone Gold has been on it's last legs for quite awhile and since every offer of help was refused, it's no big suprise that something like this happened. Other than the disappointment over how the situation was handled...I can honestly say I have moved on now. This is a great place to hang out (maybe even better than Gone Gold in some ways) and I really think that we should focus on making this a better place than on dwelling on something that is most likely never to be seen again.

I'll click on an ad banner if it's something I'm interested in (and it gets through Opera).
But a subscription? I'd sooner put the money toward porn or an MMOG.

I was a member of GG for about a year. Posted several hundred times and REALLY enjoyed everything about it. As much as I liked GG, I can't imagine paying a fee to post and read an internet forum.

I certainly wouldn't pay $10/month. You guys just aren't worth it!
Seriously, 3000 subscribers (assumed) x $10 = $30,000 and it doesn't cost anywhere near that to run a forum. Even if were only 300 subscribers, that's still 3 grand, and that's way too much money than would be needed.
I'd pay $2 to $3/month, tops.

ZERO....that's what I would pay for GG forums. I pay $9.95 a month for a FilePlanet download subscription. I get something tangible from that. The demise of the GG forums was inevitable, and it was on life support since the last main page update that had a price special listed on DOOM3. GG is dead, I've moved on. Console Gold is my new daddy!

Just sounds a tad...something. Point taken. While I like it here a lot so far and will probably like it even more as things settle down, I still can't help but feel we're intruding. We've been demanding new color schemes, demanding PC Gaming and R&P forums and I'm sure its weird for the prior "regulars" here to have this influx of people. Particularly PC people (and we can be rather weird). I'm still deep in the delusion that there has been some prolonged technical glitch and that things will be up and running shortly "back home." As that looks less and less likely I'll be willing to resettle here assuming the red carpet is in place. And it certainly has so far. Kudos to Knightshade and his crew and the CG forum members. I just don't want people pissed off that we invaded their turf. And I'd hate it if ConsoleGold forum regulars felt they had to go somewhere else because of us.
