And it's worse than I thought.  I have VERY little hair remaining up top and it's starting to recede down the back of my head.

If we divide the top of my head into 3 zones it would be as such:

Zone One; Above Forehead and first third of Dome: Very thin.  Probably fewer than 100 hairs left

Zone Two; Second Third of Dome: One can see a freckle that has not seen the light of day since birth and a red mole that didn't exist before my thirties.  Pretty good coverage overall (compared to the rest, but not like I had in my 20s). Keep up the fight boys!

Zone Three; Third Third of Dome: Abandon all hope.  The trailing edges of the second third may fool some, but if one looks closer, the pattern opens up and begins its steady relentless march for my neck.

<sigh>

I've been shaving my head for almost 15 years now.  All the I'm going bald stress goes away pretty quickly, it's super easy to maintain, and you never have to go to a barber again or need shampoo.

I've been thinning in the front for the last few years and I hate to say that it does cause me some consternation.  It's not bad yet, but I figured when it does get to that point I'll have to see what my head looks like shaved.

I've considered trying minoxidil before it goes away, but I really don't think I have the commitment to keep with that every day until the end of time and I've read that once you stop using it things actually get worse.

When my haircutter asked me today if I wanted to look at the back, I demurred because my bald spot has grown so much that it's more appropriate to talk about my remaining fenestrated zone. Looks like I'm wearing a flesh-colored yarmulke. But since I can't see the bald zone in the mirror I'll just avoid thinking about it.

+1.  Baldness starts early in my family and Iíve been shaving my head since my 2nd year of college.  Once you start you wonder why you put it off for so long.

I've been shaving my head for nearly 3 years now, and I don't regret it for a second. It's a bit of effort to maintain since you'll have to deal with it several times per week instead of once per month or so, but it's fine. It was scary the first time, but once I got used to it I started to wonder why I had waited so long.

I've been receding slowly for 20 years now, but only in the front.  Unfortunately the top of my head is starting to thin now, so I'm guessing I've got a couple of years before I need to shave it all off.  Most of my peers are already mostly bald and/or grey, so I can't complain.

Going bald doesn't bother me that much. i've known it was coming for a long time and it's just one of those things.  However, I just see shaving as surrender.

You ought to shave your head when you start getting self conscious about, and uncomfortable with, how thin your hair has become. When your hair becomes a problem for you, it's time to let it go.

I thought it was a ginger wig. Kato always uses it, and I figured he was a red-head.

Could be worse, you could have a bacteria slowly eating away all your hair whilst simultaneously causing a constant itch that never goes away.

I wouldn't say I'm self conscious about it. It is what it is.

CeeKay stop projecting.

Also, as I understand it, we're talking about the head that has ears on it - and by that I mean "commonly has ears on it". I have no idea if you are sporting two sets of auditory inputs.

I have a receding hairline but I tend to think of it as a receded hairline because I'm not sure it has changed since I got out of high school. Fortunately the top and back of my head are doing just fine!
