How is the console market doing in Africa?

I don't know.  I wasn't talking specifically about the console market in Africa, and I won't pretend to know what kind of economy they have over there.

Quote
And when talking about the 'health' of an economy, frivolous expenses have little to do with actual health.

When talking about the health of an economy, there is no distinction between frivolous expenses and non frivolous expenses, only the sale and purchase of goods and services

Quote
Indices of such would be stable jobs, a healthy balance of import and export for goods and services, health care, etc.  Consumerism is low on the totem pole regarding 'health', since consumerism is what people do with surplus funds.

Your last sentence contradicts itself.  If the economy wasn't at least partially healthy people wouldn't HAVE surplus funds.  And proper indeces of how good an economy is doing are more along the lines of production, consumer confidence, employment rates, etc.  Health care is not and never has been an indication of a healthy economy.

So no distinction is made between expenditures on things like, say, food, water, and shelter, and other things like, say, PSPs and luxury automobiles?  Wow, that economics thing is way more simplistic than I imagined.

I guess we will find out in a few years.  Health care is one of the looming issues that is going to seriously hurt our economy.  Strange thing, people dont like getting sick and dying, especially when they live down the street from a hospital.  Clinton has been saying since at least 1991 that you cant fix the economy without fixing health care.  Remember the huge strikes from last years (going from memory it was truck drivers, teachers, and grocery workers, but there might have been more)?  They were primarily striking over greatly escalating health care expenses.

And there is no contradiction.  There will always be haves and have nots.  But our economy isnt based on having a huge percentage of have nots.  So either we are going to be moving into a different economic model, or else things will have to head in a different direction.

--

In other news, Bush is finally starting to prove himself a uniter and not a divider.

--
[edit]  Today I realized a REALLY shrewd lawyerly move by the Bush administration.  Remember how they wouldnt allow anyone from the upper executive branch to go on record before the 9/11 Commission?  That was pretty slick, because now they cannot be charged with lying under oath to Congress.  They still lied to Congress several times, however, but it's a harder battle to enforce, since it was so layered with intermediaries, a la Iran Contra.

Unbreakable -  The man, the myth, the quibbler.

Quote
Why would Bush capture and prosecute a family friend? If you want to really make your head spin, consider the fact that the Hinkley family are longtime friends with the Bush's as well

Burden of Proof.

Quote
If you want to see how little GWB cares about real terrorism, keep an eye on one of the the Bush family terrorists, Luis Posada Carilles. If they truly wanted to prosecute terrorists, the man responsible for blowing up an airplane and all 73 people on board would have been extradited to Venezuela already.

Hasty Generalization.

Quote
Yes, get your Ad Hominem in early and often.

Ad Hominem in itself, or perhaps more accurately, Appeal to Spite.

Quote
At any rate, discussing why you are using fallacies is just further detracting from a discussion of the topic, which is what you were seeking all along.

Where's the link for hypocrisy...

Quote
He enters with an Ad Hominem, and he leaves with one.

Appeal to Spite.

Quote
Which is exactly why discussions involving those ugly facts are suppressed.
Burden of Proof.

Quote
If you don't feel adult enough to partake in the discussion, why do you feel the need to suppress people who wish to do so?
Ad Hominem

Quote
But the media was being muzzled, and any questioning of the President or his motives wer discouraged.
Burden of Proof.

Quote
The case for attacking Iraq wasnt an intelligence failure, it was a campaign to take random bits of information, and build a seemingly convincing case on it. Then they continued to beat the drum, and sing the same song, KNOWING it was contrary to fact.
Burden of Proof.

And that's only the first two pages!  I should probably get some work done, so I'll leave the saga at an early end.

I heart you, Unbreakable!

the war on terror is a complete and utter failure due to the administration endorsing the no talent ass clown of a quaterback tom brady instead of the blatantly superior payton manning  if anyone belongs at the white house its him...

there now if i provoke devils wrath, THEN maybe we can get it to "greatest thread ever"

oh, and to anyone else... YOUR MOMMA  there i said it, what ya gonna do biotch?

The whole Brady thing only works with RM9 because he argues in circles and he seems to get genuinely angry (like unbreakable) when you merely suggest that he might not be right.

...but, to keep in the spirit: Colts will be 7-9 this year!  biggrin

I dislike the vacuous "oh, you are wrong" statement people throw around based entirely on the mighty strength of their opinion.  If you think Im wrong, by all means try and substantiate why you have to say.

Let's see...

Someone comes in here and posts inflamatory subject lines in an attempt to goad people into arguments where they can show them how smart they are and no matter what anyone else says, they're right...

That does sound like someone looking for attention...

It's getting too easy.  biggrin

There you go throwing out that 'smart' thing again.

So not only are you insecure about getting attention, you are also insecure about your intelligence... interesting.

Let's put it to a vote - We'll see who's posts the gang thinks are more interesting.

I'm going to guess people would rather read "IN!" than your crap.
