So when I went to go see Green Lantern (and hell, almost any other movie) there is always some slack jawed dumbass who insists on talking through the ENTIRE movie. Whether it's describing it to their children (unless all these kids are blind, I think they just saw it too), or just giving their play-by-play impressions, these people just can't shut up. What's your tactic?

I absolutely hate it, and it's a main reason I don't go to the movies as much anymore. I had an ex-girlfriend who would purposely talk loud during a movie, but I could never get her to shut up or learn the reason why people do it .

I've done many bad things to these people, I've also done nothing at times. Some theaters will handle it for you if you go tell them at the office though, but then you miss more of the movie.

since I have a home theatre system with a high def projector and an 8 foot screen, I kick them out of my house! I rarely go to the theaters any more, mostly because of things like KD mentioned.

Be careful though. I remember a few years ago when I was at a matinee. About 7 seats up, there was a kid with his mother who kept yelling out stuff during the movie. Eventually, after about 10 minutes of this, I yelled back "Shut up!". When they turned around, I realized that the kid was obviously developmentally challenged and I had just done the equivalent of shooting Bambi in the face. Everyone in the theater was shooting knives out their eyes at me. I got up to go to the bathroom after a couple of minutes and just kept on going towards the exit. Its amazing how people will spin things to suit them. you mean the girl? Yeah, she tries to insinuate that she was just using her phone to find her seat...then drops numerous references to her texting activity not bugging anyone else.

It looks like they're opening outside Texas now. Hopefully this means franchises. Personally, I would love to own and run something like the Drafthouse.

Man, I'd love to attend a FantasticFest. hmmmm....this needs consideration. You must consider it! The cost of the Fantasticfest badge is $205.00. But it's the best Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy film fest in the nation. And it's in damn Austin, one hell of a fine city. Get yerself a cheap hotel and a flight and go! I certainly I'm going back! Sept 23rd to Sept 30th.

I've given serious thought to buying a very-illegal cell phone jammer and putting it in my pocket for the movie. The only reason I wouldn't would be the one time there was an actual emergency and I blocked it. :/

The movie soundtrack is usually so bone-shakingly loud that I can't hear the audience chattering and rattling their candy wrappers and so forth. On those rare occasions when I can, I just lean over and say "Honey, this movie is what they call a "talkie". You're supposed to listen to those big glowing people on the wall."
Then she says "fuck you" and shuts up. I think she appreciates my helpful advice.

I went to a movie with my wife a long time ago (pre-kids). She usually gets upset if I tell people to shut up, I think in fear that they'll have a weapon. This time, though, it was a group of obnoxious pre-teen girls who did everything but watch the R-rated movie they shouldn't have been there for. I mean, they talked as though they were at the food court. They got up frequently during the movie to run to other people in other movies and loudly report back. It was just one of the worst experiences of self-centered awful behavior I have ever seen. I repeatedly told them to shut up, but they kept at it. Finally, the movie ended. I stood up and told the girls that they owed me the $20 I had paid for my tickets. My wife stood by me. There were people gathering behind me who liked where this was going. The terrified looks on their faces was enough to know the message had gotten through, I guess, so my wife Good Copped me and let them off the hook, but not before being told what awful little non-human beings they were.
Fortunately, it was the Psycho remake, so it didn't matter that much.
Even so, these punks were better than the jackass in the front row when I went to see Art on Broadway. This turd plopped his program down on the purposefully black stage where it sat, glaringly for half the show (especially obvious for those of us in the mezzanine).

The wife bought tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld in Vegas and I was really excited to go. People were showing up late during the warm up act which was okay with me. Two big guys sat in front of the wife and I when Jerry came out. 15 to 20 minutes into his set, the guy in front of me opens the blazing sun of a cell phone and goes to FB. I noticed that these guys weren't laughing at any of Jerry's act. I leaned forward and said "excuse me but could you turn off your phone?!" The guy closed it really quickly and 5 minutes later him and his buddy bailed without there drinks and food. It wasn't until after the show that I realized that the two guys were from Russia because there were folks in the other seats, who also never laughed, yapping in Russian. I never felt bad about asking and I think, on average, most people will comply. I know this was a live performance but it is the same situation. There was this time where I had gone to the movies to see No Way Out when some old retired Navy goat started to loudly critique the shameful embarrassingly poor potrayal of Navy life in the movie. I stood up, loudly, and moved a few rows away and enjoyed the movie. Unless you are in a bad part of town I think it woirks to ask folks to simmer down or just get up and move.

This is why I like going to movies on opening night, or even midnight showings if I care that much. Generally the people are better behaved and more excited, so the experience is even better than it would be if I had the theater all to myself.

I always try to sit in the back row so that my annoyance factor is cut by about 180 degrees. I also tend to go to animated movies at the first showing. Very few people are there and I think I can take most of the 4 year olds who annoy me. The little buggers can be dangerous in packs though.
