This site confuses me.  Is it just a place where there is no moderation so we can go and swear and act like 14 year-olds?*  Was spawned by the great Battle of F*cktard Hill? * Not that I have a problem with it.  I like to vent my inner adolescent occasionally, too.  But not on a daily basis.

Sort of. Bovine was cleary a reaction to what was going on (or not going on) with OO that had been building for awhile.  I question whether just being OO's evil twin is enough to keep it going but it is interesting.

I'm just curious as to what goes in the locked forum, the Chicken Coup. I'm sure it's very mature as befits former Gone Goldies.

I'd never been to Bovine before yesterday...  I have to say that the very little I saw made OO look like Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood...  Of course it isn't everyone there or anything; some of the names I remembered and liked.  But some of those who are more vocal who's posts I tended to avoid were there too...

Not quite.  There's moderation, it's just very hands off.  We're there to take care of the big time problems, but not to tell our members what appropriate behavior is.  Everyone is an adult, and can decide for themselves how to act.

I wanted to get that disclaimer addition there in before too many folks read it...  Hate sounding like I was painting everyone with a broad brush.

My only regret is not one of my own...  It's sad that Rich went from such a highly respected guy to such a poorly regarded one by such a large community of people.  It didn't have to be this way.  As much as he doesn't want to have anything to do with anybody here, he could have chosen to bow out gracefully instead of by giving us all the middle finger.

Thats kind of sad.  I was willing to give Rich the benefit of the doubt over the GG thing, no hard feelings.  But fucking with CG was just not cool.

Oh, I don't know. Ron has already said he's only interested in moving forward, and now he and the staff can make GT anything they want it to be, with nothing holding them back at all.  Seems to me everyone just needs to remember that the communities are all still alive and well, and that's what really matters, right?  Ron kept this place here for the community. As long as people are focused on keeping it a good one, then why wouldn't it end well?  Unhappy process, but it can ultimately lead to something so much better and stronger.

I feel bad that Rich has attempted to kill another community. I had a lot of communication with him at one point while GG was growing and at times I felt that I should of been more vocal with others to explain what kind of person he was but he character was rather untouchable and no one would listen anyways.

It's weird because I've heard that from more than one person with personal real-life experience with Rich in the last few days, including some who I've had contact with directly.  And it's not just the last few years of GG they are referring to, either.  Odd to think that the image Rich had among GG'ers was apparently so far from the reality of who he always was.

This one's from Rob Merritt & equally great:

ok, someone help me out here.  Years ago, I used to do a little writing for Rich at GG.  Some of you may remember I had a weekly column called "From the Bench" which was basically a look at gaming trends through the eyes of a very jaded gamer.

Anyway, as Rich's health started failing, he started spending more and more time away from the site.  If I recall, a guy named Andy from down under was the only one doing any updating, if GG got updated at all.  Somewhere in there Console Gold opened and I thought all along that it was Rich's site as well...maybe I was wrong.

Anyway, one day I clicked on GG and it was gone.  It took me awhile, but I finally figured out the GG forums had been merged into Console Gold.  I never asked, but I just assumed that Rich's health had gotten so bad that he had to abandon GG.  He was having a ton of problems.

Now here we are and it seems like people are paining Rich as the bad guy.  I have had no contact with Rich in years so I have no clue what is going on.  Could someone bring me up to speed as to what's happened and why Rich is a monster?  The cliff notes version will do fine.

The_Man I'd start by reading this thread, especially page two where Ron talks about what Rich did.

You can also find more information in this thread: link.

You can find Rich's side of the story at Octopus Overlords: link.

If that's not enough there's a 16 page thread about it at OO also.

That should take most of the morning.   biggrin

LOL!  Yeah, thanks.  I read the condensed version at both forums and now have a better handle on what's going on.  I always liked Rich so this has taken me by surprise.  Glad to hear he's still alive anyway.

Many of us feel hurt, outrage, and/or confusion, and commiserating with friends is a great way to deal with those emotions.  Particularly friends who have been/are going through the same problem.

However, as Ron and the staff try to rebrand the site and rebuild/maintain their connections within the industry, I'd imagine our ability to follow their lead and move on quickly, at least in appearances, would be greatly appreciated.  The more we pick at the scab, the longer the wound will fester.

Actually, one nice thing is that the new name doesnt pigeonhole you into console systems any longer.  Now you are free to cover the whole range (which you had been doing anyway) and have your name match your 'mission'.
