There's something happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear.

This is very strange. ILB posted on BC that he didn't know why its down. That is odd, since he is the administrator right now. Hopefully we will get some answers to that. If it is anything sinister heads must roll.

Yeah, don't panic people - I'm simply blaming this on the overload of OO. It's like when Penny Arcade takes another jab against crazy Jackass Thompson - they get flooded with hits that just kill the server.

They'll be back. I'll be here though. biggrin

While I don't harbor near the bitterness as some people over this whole mess (what's done is done - let's all just move on), I have to admit that's really damn funny.

The OO domain is in my name, so it hasn't been redirected or anything.  From what I've been able to gather (which isn't much - technology frightens me), it's a server issue.  I'm hopeful Rip will be on it shortly.

Navigator Hosting (Rip's hosting service) is down, so most likely it's just server issues.

As mentioned already, probably caused by the massive influx of CG people wondering what happened to CG, and some other security issues.

Good grief, I sound like some politician going on air to make it look like the government knows what's happening when he really doesn't.

I just spoke to Rip, and it's a problem with his connection - his server is fine, he just needs his ISP to fix things.

Thanks.

I feel bad that Rich has attempted to kill another community. I had a lot of communication with him at one point while GG was growing and at times I felt that I should of been more vocal with others to explain what kind of person he was but he character was rather untouchable and no one would listen anyways.

In this box, Mr. LaPorte holds the past, present and future of everyone who ever once logged onto GG. Notice he has begun to squeeze it at the corners.

The figures to either side of him are his Two Geeks of the Apocolypse.

Watch out GT!

PS.  I'm still pro Rich.

Altho he didn't pay the cost of the CG site he did own the domain name and suddenly without warning sold it to another company. There was much vilification of Rich.
That's pretty much the thread in a nutshell.

Edit:Ron was paying for the domain name and it wasn't do for renewal until April 2006.

Ron talks about it over at Bovine Conspiracy and explains it very well: link

Quote
Rich gave me a cell number and a new email address to reach him. We had agreed on a price and certain expectations of cross-support between GG and CG. I tried to call once or twice a week to keep Rich 'in the loop'. I got a generic answering machine message. I left messages. I sent emails to the private email address that Rich gave me. No reply. I tried again and again to no avail. Months passed and still no replies. I researched various phone numbers of other LaPortes in the phone book - nobody knows Rich. I tried registered letters - I never recieved a rejection or an acknowledgement. Everything I tried to send to Rich seemed to be redirected to dev/null. I just couldn't get anywhere. Recently we began to towards seperation as there was just no way to break the silence without blindly flying out to the last known location for Rich.

Fast forward to yesterday. Rich reappears after 18 months and strikes in the deepest fashion possible - he logged into NetSol's site (as confirmed by Netsol over the phone) and changed our NS servers. This means that DNS no longer points people who try to reach GoneGold to our site. Now it points to a parked domain site on Netsol. I called Rich and asked him to call back immediately. That call never came. We had only two options - shut down forever, or rebuild on a new site. I just can't throw away 4 years worth of work, so door #2 for me Monty Hall.

Man quite the drama!  And now OO is down...hmmm are Rip and Rich the same person, note the Ri in the beginning!  Now Ri, is pretty close to Ra, the ancient egyptian God...Egyptians liked cows I think, so we can rope Bovine Conspiracy into this too...

Wait a minute it's Bovine CONSPIRACY right?  I mean it all fits!

This site confuses me.  Is it just a place where there is no moderation so we can go and swear and act like 14 year-olds?*  Was spawned by the great Battle of F*cktard Hill?

* Not that I have a problem with it.  I like to vent my inner adolescent occasionally, too.  But not on a daily basis.

Sort of. Bovine was cleary a reaction to what was going on (or not going on) with OO that had been building for awhile.  I question whether just being OO's evil twin is enough to keep it going but it is interesting.

The latest word....

Quote
Okay...Just talked to Rip. He says that he expects resolution possibly within the hour and maybe a few hours at most. They have been working under the assumption that something was wrong with his firewall, but have since eliminated that as a possibility. Now they think that when they reset something yesterday, their router "lost the route" to his location.

I'm typing all of this from memory and with a very limited understanding of what he was talking about.

He says that the server integrity is fine, and no data was lost.
