So it's the new year, and I to keep the tradition of trying to lose weight alive, I thought we can do a weight loss goal? If so, I'll post a thread by the weekend with the format. I figured being the new year there's still probably parties going on, so why start now http://www.gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php/topic,24267.msg353211.html#msg353211

Im definetely in. I started running and lifting weights again.. With work/family I need to get up at 4:45 am each day to get this done, but i know it will be worth in. I also cut out (for the most part) soda and am just drinking water and I really cut my portions down that i eat (and I even...gasp...eat salad now). Im at 227 now, and the goal is to get to 200 and see how I look.

Sure, I'm game... I've already got a competition going with some friends... we all put in $50, and at the end of March the person with the greatest percentage of weight lost takes it all.

I'm in - this last year has been horrible for me. I gained 20 pounds since the start of 2007 so I'm exceptionally pissed at myself.

So are we going to also do any kind of pool for most weight loss (or percentage of weight loss like biggest loser does) by some date?
I'm fine either way (assuming the chip-in was reasonable like $5 - $10).

Hmm, you think I am rich or something? Nah - was just thinking in terms of like 10 people chipping in $5 == 1 new game for the winner.

So far I've kept off my 10 pounds lost, but haven't been able to go further. I've still got bit of a gut and want more defined facial features. So anything that'll help me reach and maintain my goal is a good thing.
And if we're talking money I'd also contribute.

Anyone know of or have a link to a good do-it-yourself fitness assessment? I can figure things out like a push-up and sit-up test, but I'm not sure how to properly do things like a standing/active heart rate and...well I don't know what the other good tests would be.

I only suggested it because someone else mentioned they had an office pool going on. If we did do it though - I think it would need to be for a small amount for several reasons: 1. So everyone feels like they can join in. Have to remember that not all of us have as much discretionary income 2. So there's less temptation / suspicion of people cheating. I mean it's not we're all together and can actually see each others weight loss to be sure that someone's not lying / cheating. So in second thought - maybe it wouldn't be a good idea for those reasons.

I don't think cash as an incentive is a good thing. Greed makes people turn to ugly things.
Maybe Ron has some schwag lying around that can go to a winner or something, but that would be for him to decide.

I'm thinking if everyone reserves a spot in the other thread and then just keeps updating their spot then that thread will disappear from the first couple of pages in Off-Topic pretty quickly. Maybe we should sticky it?

If anyone wants to do a bet on the side that's cool with me. However my intention was just bragging rights. I originally had it stickied, but thought it would get lost between the donations and the COC threads. My plan was to bump it every Sunday morning. I'll go ahead and sticky it. I don't think cash as an incentive is a good thing. Greed makes people turn to ugly things.

That's cool if he wants to do it, but it's not required, this wasn't his idea, nor it's an official GT contest, just something for fun. We also might have a live database to plug in our numbers, will give more info once it's available.

You're right, without seeing you say that you stickied it I wouldn't have seen it up there. But now I know, and knowing is half the battle!

I would also bump it every sunday so it shows up in the "Show unread posts since last visit." listing. Just keep deleting your old bumps or it'll end up resembling CeeKay's mom's face.

As an FYI - I decided that I can't wait for the official start date.
Being diabetic and gaining 20 pounds over the year has started to cause me some issues (higher blood sugar / blurry vision / etc) so best to start immediately.

SpicyJ has volunteered his time and skills to create an online database for us to use to plug in your numbers. Here is the link http://www.jxprime.net/Weighttracker/Simply register with a user name and password, enter your weight goal. Once you do that you can enter your weight in weekly. However, as far as I know it doesn't track your weekly fluctuations, so you might want to also plug in your numbers here as well for a bigger picture. We'll see if we can add that in. Anyways, don't forget to weigh in tomorrow!

As a side note - since I noted that Purge, Unbreakable and Arkon are the three guys closest to me in weight / height. I figure that they are good measuring lines for my own progress
Therefore -- I'm making it a personal goal to try and beat them each week.

Sorry guys, I'm out. I dropped 30 pounds last year and I'm close enough to my ideal body weight. (5'9", 165lbs. Down from 195 lbs.)

Jan 13. 199. -2 lbs.
However, the synergy of calorie count and exercise is not quite yet to peak efficiency. This week should mark the beginning of the sweet spot in that regard...provided my left knee holds up.

Did horrible this week. Worked really hard in the middle of the week and made the mistake of getting on the scale the next day, seeing no improvement. Made some bad food decisions after that point :/

-4.5 lbs this week (yay!). I don't think I'll be able to keep up that pace. No real change in exercise (ie, I'm not doing any), but I have eaten less and haven't had any soda in a week.
I'm going to try and add some basic charting/graphing to my tracking app this week, stay tuned...

Yeah, some stressful work and terrible eating choices bombed me for this week as well. At least I continued with my morning exercises.
