Given that the first track "Girlfriend" (vid, lower right)makes me want to claw my eardrums out?

Though I don't care for her personally, I thoroughly enjoyed both of her first albums and listened to "Under My Skin" for a very very very long time- bothbeing moved by it and rocking out  headbang to it.

Next week her latest hits the shelves.

What should I do!?

You're thinking about buying an Avril Lavigne album?  We may need to stage an intervention.

Doesn't Amazon.com usually have samples of the tracks from the CD available once it's been released?  That may be your best bet.

Under My Skin was my favorite album of 2004 and it still holds up incredibly well today.

I actually listened to the song (and saw the video, she DANCES) yesterday as well as listed to an interview (if anybody's got Comcast, it's OnDemand).  She says this album is more "playful" which sucks.

Her first album was so-so, but I like the grown-up vibe of Under My Skin.  She's getting more "FUN!" on this one...and that doesn't sound good.

If you like solo female artists I'd recommend Amy Winehouse over Avril Lavigne.

Well, if we're going to talk solo female artists I'd take a number of choices over Avril Lavigne:

Jenny Lewis
Regina Spector
Neko Case
Feist
Nina Nastasia

But Avril's last album was shockingly good for a "punk" "pop" teenager.

Fiona Apple's latest album was actually really good, too.

I have zero optimism that Avril Lavigne's will be any good, but I'm sure I will be hearing songs from it on the radio for far too long.

Suspected I'd heard Avril Lavigne while driving & randomly flipping radio channels this last week. Thought I recognized her sorta distinct but kinda girlish voice, plus the lyrics sounded, uh, trite. Recall "girfriend" was indeed repeatedly chanted; seeing this thread confirms it was her. Don't expect anything monumental (hell, tolerable) -teengirlpop w/ a repeat beat. Makes Fergilicious sound profound.

Finally gave this record a listen.

Awful. Awful. Awful. Not. One. Good. Song.

In fact, I've already thrown the disc, packaging and all, into the garbage.

It's self indulgent and obviously the product of far too many people telling her how great she is.  Hopefully it's just a slump.

Alannis when through it with Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and now Avril has too.

Worst record I've heard in a looonnnnnggggg time.

Avril Lavigne is a pawn of the RIAA and thus not subject to my music purchasing habits; which is null anyway.

I'm very glad to hear the album sucks. I'm sorry you had to experience it to save the rest of the world.

So Amazon's new policy of giving you the mp3 versions of the albums you bought from them for free has resurrected this into my Amazon Cloud player.

Should I give it another try?

Why it is necessary to shoehorn music into boxes like that is beyond me. Not everything fits your nice little ordered world, and people have tastes that goes beyond what you consider to be normal.

Why it is necessary to shoehorn the Danes into boxes like that is beyond me. First of all, you'd need some pretty big boxes or a very sharp, not to mention quiet saw of some sort.  Not every Dane fits your nice little ordered crating system, and people have tastes for Danes that go beyond what you consider to be normal.

I'm quite relaxed, actually - it just seems like bullying by now instead. I doubt he finds it particulary funny, so right now you are just making fun of him to amuse who..you? Others?

There is a difference between light-hearted good banter, and what happens here. While its no big deal at all, its just weird that its necessary to do.

Heps emotional maturity was stumped by coffee, and far too many episodes of Seinfeld. He's reaching out for attention of any kind, and I think ATB knows this.

I listen to top 40 music (generally) for workouts, as the OccurancesOfRacialSlurs:BeatsPerMinute ratio is low.

I also listen to Skrillex, which, if you hadn't experienced it, is much like listening to dance music from inside a fax machine.

Do you believe this is the proper response after the discussion we've just had?

I would hope in the interest of fairness that those who criticized my post will now act in a fair manner and condemn this attack as well.
