I was very surprised that he was afforded the time to throw two shoes by the secret service, and that he didn't end up shot.

you know, when you look at it the whole thing seems staged.  the guy next to Bush doesn't even seem surprised, and you'd think there would be a bit more movement out of Bush.

I had that same thought.

Also, Bush has very good reflexes.

If you look at his eyes he's not looking directly where the shoe is coming from.  And that guy would be Al Malki (sp) the PM of Iraq. He's dodged far worse than shoes...

This is the first time I feel bad for Bush. Can you imagine anything more frightening? Secreting away to Iraq for a farewell, and to be assault by somebody screaming something you can't understand, and that he gets a chance to throw a second shoe?

Bush really looks shaken.

And yet, I think it's something I would do if I were an Iraqi journalist. And then, I'd be really lucky to be alive.

Just out of curiosity...can't shoes be set on fire before they're thrown?  ninja

No he doesn't. He looks like an idiot unable to fathom the reasoning and anger that went into throwing both of those shoes.

Why on earth would anyone fake a shoethrowing at themselves?

Oh, and has SS ( icon_twisted) assigned the oldest and most slow SS ( icon_twisted) agents to bush now that he's no longer the top dog?? I mean, come on - that could have been anything flying at him...

Well, considering that's a pretty extreme insult in the Arab world, I doubt Bush staged it.  The Secret Service sure did fall down on the job there.

I imagine the Secret Service was not solely in charge of security.  It was a joing governmental function in a foreign country.  This wasn't a crackpot that slipped security, he was a properly vetted journalist.

An interesting (although coincidental) detail - the second shoe catches the American flag.

I know what you're thinking.  Did he throw two shoes or only one?  Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself.  But being as these are Rockports, the most comfortable shoes in the world, and would take your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Unfortunately counting to even two looks to be problematic as Bush doesn't seem to realize that the attacker does in fact have two feet worth of ammo.

Capitalism invades the Muslim world.

Quote
Sales of the shoes made famous by Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi have soared, with requests pouring in to the Turkish shoemaker from across the world, media reports said Monday.

As a result, Istanbul-based Ramazan Baydan has had to recruit an extra 100 staff to meet orders for 300,000 pairs of the "Model 271 brogues," Britain's Daily Mail said.
