To hear my mother's take (she lives in Roseville, CA) it was completely the fault of evil unions, and godless democratic legislators.

I want a new conan. But at his age and health he would have to play the mentor role of an older Conan teaching a younger hipper guy how to do it all.
I'm guessing Shia LaBeouf would play the younger one. He gets all those parts.

FUCK HIM
Was he really that bad a governor? Yes, and he was worse than Gray Davis, who was so bad he didn't even finish out his last term as gov. I wouldn't say he was worse than Gray Davis but he sure went from having everyone's hopes to dashing everyone's hopes. Arnold was the prime example of ego and noteriety thinking it was more important than substance. Arnold was impotent since losing several votes he pushed about 4 years ago. Of course having a socialist legislature didn't help.

Face it, you live in a socialist state (well, 55+% at least), at least by your criteria. You are right tho, the alternative was worse - Angelides was such a tool. Westley might have been good, if he could have gotten past Angelides. However, nobody was going to do well the past few years. Cali's gov't is too dependent on income and property taxes. If both get nuked (like they did), it's a clusterfuck no matter what you do.

If Schwarzenegger hadn't killed Gray Davis's Car Registration Fee the state would have had an extra $6 billion/year and would not be having it's current financial crisis. Unfortunately California voters (like most American voters) is fully convinced that they can have unicorns, rainbows, and tax cuts without service cuts whenever they want.

Unfortunately California voters (like most American voters) is fully convinced that they can have unicorns, rainbows, and tax cuts without service cuts whenever they want. How would an extra $6 billion prevented our current $20+ billion deficit.....? And if we had the extra $6 billion the socialist legislature would have spent it anyway........ The facts are the state budget almost doubled (from $60 +/- to $110 +/- in just a few short years) and when the economy crashed there was no way the state could keep up the spending OR tax enough to make up the difference. Once you establish a state program with a level of bureaucracy it is very hard to get rid of it.

it's official: his first film back will be The Last Stand. Schwarzenegger will be starring as Sheriff Owens, a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for one of the most daring face offs in cinema history.
