I don't know, I found the first Saw to be rather tame. Then again I do have a rather twisted imagination and have been known to come up with scenarios which leave my friends looking at me like

No surprise considering Saw 2 cost just $5 million and grossed $30+ million opening weekend and looks to approach $100 million.

Mike I just watched Saw tonight and really liked it. I wouldn't really consider it shock horror, although it is twisted. I'd say it's more along the lines of Se7en. There were a few gory parts in the uncut version, but listening to the commentary the director said most of those scenes weren't shown in the theatrical version. Just from media I've seen around, I would have thought it to be a much more violent film. Now to go see the sequel!

It was this moment that took the movie from being a little ho-hum to “holy shit, did that shark just eat a plane!?”

Saw was an absolute mind-fuck of a film, with a tight story (as far as such things go, anyway).
Saw 2? I dunno how it could pull off the same thing, since one of the main things which made Saw shocking obviously can't be reused. I should check a few reviews, but honestly if it is something I would like to see, all I want to know going in is if it's good.
Anyway, my point was that Saw is definitely not 'shock horror'. It gave me nightmares, which is quite an accomplishment.

The twist at the end of Saw II was pretty damned good. I enjoyed Saw II right on par with the first one. (and thankfully, no Cary Euwles (sp?) to muck things up. )
