I hope it is CGI.  Or traditionally animated. Or muppets.

Anything but guys with makeup for the orcs & such.  That worked well for the LOTR movies, but Warcraft's cartoony style is awesome.

Both Legendary pictures and Blizzard have continuously impressed me with its quality work, so I'm pretty sure this will be great!

edit: just noticed he's the guy who both wrote and directed 30 days of Night, which I LOVE! Also, he produced Drag me To hell, right? People seem pretty positive about that on as well

The first two were decent. The special effects and action were awesome, the story average, and the acting average to below average. The less said about the third movie the better.

Raimi can do a decent job with the material. And there are some interesting stories worth telling in the Warcraft universe. It's generic fantasy, but there's not a lot of quality generic fantasy movies out there.

Seeing a gnome on screen will be cool if they do it live action.

Other way around- Raimi produced 30 Days of Night and he wrote and directed Drag Me to Hell.

I believe they could be doing worse. This is actually a pretty big coup, and maybe it means the movie won't suck like many video game movies. What other video game movies have had big name directors attached to them? Uwe Boll doesn't count.

Now the question is if it is going to be a story from the viewpoint of the Horde?

Or more likely it is going to be from the viewpoint of Alliance or a movie about a love story between an orc and a human who try to stop the war. frown

The original Mortal Kombat and Death Race were both awesome popcorn flicks. Hell - Death Race was the perfect example of a 'leave your brain at the door yet enjoy the heck out of our near constant action scenes' movie, unlike Transformers.

Interview about Warcraft movie among other things.  Most notable is that the movie currently only exists as a 40-page document.  How the hell do you spend 3+ years dicking around enough that all you have is a 40 page document?  At this rate we might see the movie in 2050.

I think there's a good chance that this movie will be decent. I'll disagree with others here who think Raimi's first 2 Spiderman movies were poor. As well, his movie A Simple Plan was excellent - IMO 1 of the best thrillers made in the 90's. I think if this movie falls flat it won't be as a result of the direction, as much as the script writing.

Raimi off the movie?  if they want to get it out sooner than later I'm thinking yes, since Dinsey wants Oz in prouction next year.

Maybe not.  At their glacial rate, they might finally have a rough draft script completed by the time Oz is out the door.

The problem I see with a WoW movie is that you'll have to spend nearly the entire movie getting people onboard with the fiction (they won't assume that you know anything about it - they'll spoon-feed it to you) and it'll be tough to get into any sort of actual content.  Lord of the Rings, we kinda get it and they still took a month of Sundays to explain a great deal of the lore.

Yup. That's why most epic stories are told in the trilogy format nowadays. As long as they end the first movie with enough world and character development, folks would flock to the next and the next.

That's a really odd choice.  I wonder what he'll do with it?  It could turn out to be Ang Lee's Hulk or it could become Kenneth Branagh's Thor.

Duncan Jones is a talented director on the rise. Have you all seen 'Moon'? 'Source Code' was also quite decent. I think this movie is still in capable hands.
