http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=itMdLTd1l4E#I saw this on You Tube and man, now I know why dash-cams are required over there. Russians are quite literally the worst drivers ever. It's like watching the first person view of a Grand Theft Auto game!

There are a bunch of these videos, they are pretty crazy/awesome/scary. Supposedly over 1 million people have installed them due to the corruption/scams/craziness of it all so they can protect themselves from these things.

My wife and i just watched this last night. Random trees falling out of the sky, power poles just dropping. Lots of truck tires coming off...
It's all that vodka!

Man, I could watch these kinds of videos all day. I was crying watching this vid a few months back it made me laugh so hard. Just the slapstick nature of how things chain react is more hilarious than in say a written comedy. Pure comedy gold.
the helicopter and the jet are so awesome.

Just be aware that many of these videos probably involve people losing their lives. This was true with the last round of Russian dash cam videos that was compiled.

Yeah, a few minutes in, there was one where it was someone recording some guy in the street firing a gun into the car ahead of him.

That would be NSFW. Hell, just turning on the audio recording would probably do that.

Impressive. Model / cost? Happy with the performance? Mounting issues? How's memory management? Do you have to manually clear space, manage the device, etc?

Attached on my rear view mirror:
HD CAR DVR Rear View Mirror G SENSOR 32GB SD card accident camera video recorder HDVR-150
It's actually 5 hours at 720p 32gig SD card. Manufacturer Abeo, got it on sale for $150. Recording loops once space runs out on the SD card.
Facing six:
SMARTY BX1000 PLUS 170 Smart Black Box Car Drive Recorder
Bought this on Amazon at for $180. This guy is pretty cool - Printable accident report. Full-time Recording of shocks / speed mph or kph / location Information Thumbnail Image Search GPS - Interlocked Google Map (Google Earth) Auto, continuous or manual recording possible. Cylindrical design enables recording of vehicle interior as well as standard exterior recording.
Records at a max resolution of 640x480, 7 hours to fill the SD

They both mounted easily and painlessly. The quick start guides that come with them is all that is needed to set up. And both loop recording when the SD card is at full capacity.
Performance wise for these kind of items you get what you pay for, and both these models are very good.

Cool, thanks for sharing the details, Kato. I had seen some cheapies on Amazon, and was wondering if the price was indicative of the whole range, or if there were others that be better.
How's the night recording on these?

No special optics if that's what you mean, but other than that, smooth playback. Basically they see what you can see, probably a bit better. There's a big difference between the sub $100 dash cams and the ones I bought. Had a cheap one that cost $50 or so and the playback was unreliable and choppy as in 10-15 fps max.

If you had to choose just one of those models, I would recommend the black box. It does, well....everything.
