#1 ?   icon_eek

One would assume so, at least until they lose to Ole Miss at home next week.   Tongue

I'm not so sure Alabama will take the top spot. I wouldn't be surprised to see Texas or Missouri vault ahead to #1.

I'm not 'Bama fan, but if that happens it's BS.  It's not like they have some complicated BCS crap to factor in.

Edit: With 1, 3, and 4 all losing, I have a hard time believing they will jump #5 Texas over #2 Alabama.

It's Texas. Ah well, no worries. This might be even better at this point.

Just 17 points seperate Alabama & Texas in the AP, with Texas taking 39 1st place votes, to Bama's 36.

Texas Tech to #5 on the Coaches' Poll, stuck at #7 on AP.  Not likely to get much boost off of playing A&M next week.

For next week, Mizzou should still be a threat to Texas.

Nick Saban is 7-0 for the first time in his career.     Alabama is 7-0 for the first time in 2 years, but in it's highest rank since 1993.

Mount Cody fell yesterday and was carted off the field.    This could loom large for us against Tennessee next week.    MRI results are still pending.     Preliminary reports suggest an MCL injury.   No word on if it was a pull, partial or full tear.

I've been disappointed in Alabama the past 3 games. I mean, I'm glad they keep winning, and hey a win's a freakin' win in the SEC. No matter what, 7-0 is strong, especially coming out of the SEC. But ... my concern & disappointment lies in our 2nd half play this season.

We must be utterly destroying teams in the first half, but our 2nd half collapses show a lack of killer instinct, which is needed to win it all, I think.

31-0 over Georgia at halftime, Georgia outscores us 31-10 in the 2nd half.

17-7 over Kentucky, ends up 17-14

24-3 over Ole Miss ends up 24-20.

I'm not frowning on them, but I am concerned. Penn State has been beating the living shit out of everyone they've played, and Texas is OMG strong.

Well to be fair -- I was at both the Kentucy and Ole Miss games.    Ole Miss was a TOUGH team.   Kentucky should have been a blowout, but we had two critical drive stopping turnovers and several very weak flags thrown against us that called back huge momentum swinging drives.       In other words -- the Kentucky game wasn't nearly as close as the scoreboard showed.

I was a little nervous about this game, but damn, Bama came out hitting hard and finally had a good 2nd half. Saban was disgruntled (as I was) about our 2nd half play the last 3 games, in which we were outscored 63-13 in the 2nd halves of those games.

We shall see. Tech's a good team, but the best team they've played is Kansas while UT has played OU, Mizzou and OSU.

I like UT's chances.

Texas Tech is beating the crap out of Texas. Bama wins 35-0.

#1? finally? or will they jump Penn St or Tech above Bama?

Florida looks very strong, and barring a single missed extra point, they'd easily be #1.

edit: Ok, so Texas Tech is NOT beating the crap out of Texas. That has turned into a game.

OMG what a finish in that Texas Tech - Texas game!

Roll Tide, #1 baby!  (er, I hope)

as much as I'd like to see it, I don't see us above third. We still don't get enough respect to jump that many spots. Maybe after OK State, but probably not unless we beat Oklahoma.

Realistically, I'd have tech at 3 and texas at 4 - who are the idiots who have Oklahoma ahead of Texas?  Do they have ADD or alzheimers or something?.  Tech still has to go on the road and win a tough game.  If they win out, no problem with them jumping to the top, but until they beat OSU and then Oklahoma on the road, they haven't earned a #1 slot in my mind.  PSU over OSU on the road is a tougher win than Texas at home, even though for TT, beating Texas is more important.

Harris has Texas 6, Oklahoma 5.

Coaches have Texas 7, Oklahoma 4.

The computers correct for their stupidity by having Texas 3 and Oklahoma 6.

Current BCS verdict: Texas 4, Oklahoma 6.

BTW - great win - that was an awesome game.  Win out, and you'll jump PSU and probably 'Bama (sorry msd, the Big 12 South Gauntlet looks tougher this year, though the SEC championship against FLA should be a doozy).

We have already jumped PSU in the one ranking that now matters...

Winning out will be nigh impossible, methinks.  I just hope it's a loss to OU and not OSU.  Then it will come down to straight BCS rankings if Texas and OU win out as well.  If we lose to OSU, we're done on tiebreakers to Texas even if we beat OU.

10-0

Wooohoo!

what a wild ride. If Bama wins it all, they'll do so with crappy kicker. I feel for the guy, but Leigh Tiffin is not his father.

All in all, another tough SEC road win. Hats off to Alabama!

I can certainly understand that sentiment. To me they don't "feel" #1 either. It's kind of an incidental ranking, heh. However, a very similar scenario took place in 1992, when virtually no one thought Alabama deserved their #2 ranking and a spot in the NC game against Miami. Then they proceeded to stomp the shit out of the Hurricanes, who had won 29 straight.

This year's Alabama team has proven more to this point than the '92 team had after 10 games. They've beaten two top 10 teams on the road (Clemson & Georgia), and now win a road game against the defending Nat'l champions, who aren't exactly awful this year.

I'd say Alabama is arguably #1, but like you said, we'll see.

No mistake about it, I fear Florida.

one last point: Penn State looked awesome too, stomping everyone they've played ... until today.

Julio Jones is the real deal....at one point it took almost the entire LSU defense to take him down.

If LSU had any resemblance of a QB in that game, Bama loses it.  Lee was just awful for much of the game.  I can't believe how many passes over receivers' heads or at their feet he threw.  Will be interesting to see if Bama can beat Florida in the SEC Championship.

I can stomach our losses to Florida and Georgia because our D gave up a ton of points.  We deserved to win this one because the D played fine, but that pitiful QB display is what really cost us.  Still, I always want an SEC team to the BCS title and Bama or Florida are certainly capable.
