This definitely caught my attention at IMDB:

Quote
Robocop is returning to the big screen - 15 years after the cyborg crimefighter handed over his badge and gun.

Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky - famous for movies Pi and Requiem for a Dream - has signed on to direct the fourth installment of the franchise, reports Daily Variety.

The movie, a 'noir' take on the story about a murdered cop who is brought back to life as a robot, is slated for a 2010 release.

That would be quite different from a Verhoeven RoboCop - but I am curious...

I knew they were re-booting it, but not that it was going to be done by Aronofsky. Should be interesting. And Aronofsky really needs the work.

Seriously?  I dunno.  It could be cool but I think;

Aronofsky's involvement pretty much piques my interest immediately.  Whatever his take on the franchise ends up being, I'm confident it won't be boring or safe.

I have to wonder if he's trying to make the same sort of transition as Christopher Nolan did with the Batman franchise (especially since Aronofsky was attached to the Batman reboot right before Nolan).

Interesting. I wonder if Noir style will be all the rage again, what with Max Payne coming out, and now this.

I'm in two minds about that.  For a start, I hated Pi but I loved Requiem, so he's 50/50 for me.  And Robocop was meant as a satire, which Verhoeven excels at.  What's Aranofsky going to do with it?  Maybe not another stinging satire, and therefore maybe not the kind of Robocop film that I'd like to see.  Definitely curious though.

i've only ever seen The Fountain, which was pretty good, if a bit plot-holed.

we could make a movie about a bunch of people posting on a forum complaining about there being no more original movies.  It could be all artsy  icon_biggrin

well, I guess it's safe to say this never happened.    now they have some Brazilian guy  to write the script, and it's back to being a re-boot.
